Tweeters in TSX Dash, modifying hole

Hello All. Next weekend, I will finally be completeing my install that was started months ago. Tried back in July but my 300/4 was bad and had to go back to JL. It just came back so hoping to finish this. Anyway, I am installing DLS MS6A's up front. The use the same tweeter as the UP6, just a different (cheaper) mid. The tweeter is just a tiny bit too big to slide into the stock location. I need to enlarge the stock hole a bit, maybe 1mm. I have read about others doing this, and have seen others install these tweeters. Any advice on how to enlarge that hole? What did you use? I have a dremel, but not the flexible neck one so doubt i can use that. Thanks in advance.

I used an xacto knife with a modified (shortened) handle to trim the hole. I didn’t have to trim anything from the finished surface just the “slag” underneath.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of that. Mine will be the same way. Just a tiny bit of trimming to the "inner" recessed hole. These are very close to fitting without cutting. Will still be able to hide it with the stock tweeters if I ever need to put them back in.

I used my dremel with a flexible neck, and just like merc, only had to do away with some inner plastic to make enough room. And sharp knife should be able to scrape around in there too, its almost a foam underneath.

the internet.

(sorry)

Tweets won't make much of a difference by themselves. Get some matching component speakers and an amp, and you're home free to a new audio experience tho.

You might be done by now, but I used a razor blade and 60 grit sand paper to widen the hole. The sand paper was a hell of a lot easier to round out the hole. Crude cut with a blade and sand to fit.

Not if you normally listen to music with your fingers in your ears.

i had titanium tweeters that came with my MB quart set and i found them to be too harsh. especially since the tweeter location on the tsx is right below the windshield it makes any harshness even worse. for my latest install i have decided to go with silk dome tweeters which are typically less harsh.

It’s personal preference. I prefer the smooth sound of silk tweeters to the harsh metal sound. Use your ears and buy what sounds good to you.

I agree with the other 2. It is personal preference, but generally speaking, metal tweeters tend to sound a bit harsh in a location such as the TSX. I also would recommend fabric or silk.

What mids and x-overs do you have? How are the mids and your new tweeters going to be amplified. Those are very very important things to consier when searching for tweeters.

These are supposed to be close to unbeatable for the price

They make it in a metal version as well if you really want that

I have the infinity components, and the tweeters are too harsh for me. I'm thinking of changing out the entire front set now.

Thanks to both you and Merc. Was only thinking power tools, blade and sandpaper make too much sense since I do not have the flexible neck dremel. To ship an amp back to JL for repair, you have to do it through a dealer. The only local JL dealer I like is a good 50 miles from my house. (pass 3-4 dealers to get there, but I like them) Asuming I find time to pick up my amp this week, hoping to finish Saturday. Thanks again.
