It doesn't really make any sense to mount tweeters in that location.

A quality system (whether it be factory or aftermarket) re-creates, or in most cases tries to, the original 'soundstage'.

If you've ever been to a concert, jazz or classical in particular, musicians and specific instruments are located in certain places on stage. The goal of a premium stereo system is to reproduce this stage, placing the instruments in the appropriate position.

I think the ELS system in my TL is great, especially with 2-channel recordings, and while DVD-A (and DTS) sound great, it's important to remember that these recordings are engineered and manipulated this way so that vocals will pan from left to right, or the guitars will move from speaker to speaker.

The tweeters are mounted in the dash locations and aimed towards the center (right around the rear view mirror) to try and focus the soundstage to the middle of the car.... In tandem with the mid-bass drivers in the doors, the singer, in essence, would be front and center. The tweeters also use the windshield to reflect their sound to help create a 'deeper' stage.

Moving the tweeters to where you are thinking about putting them will not only destroy the intended quality of the stereo system, but also be really annoying to you and your front passenger. You would constantly have cymbals or screeching guitars in your left ear.... Not good times.

If you want to make improvements, my suggestion would be to upgrade the amplification or speaker array. I wouldn't mess with the placement as they have been carefully laid out to get the very best out of the car's natural acoustics.
