TSX Speaker upgrade: Anything similar to Avincar?

I was planning on upgrading the TSXs speakers with the Avincar set, but I've emailed and called, and not heard from Ken or anyone else at Avincar.

I was just curious if they were any speakers out there that were similar to the avincar set (i.e. 8 speaker upgrade w/o an amp)

From doing some research, it seems the Alpine Type-S are a good default choice for the $$$, but I was definetly interested in the sound imaging the avincars offered.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You should check out this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/tsx-speaker-replacement-priorities-354427/

He installed the Alpine SPS-171A components in the dash and front doors using the built in crossovers in the OEM amp and the SPS-69C2 in the rear deck. This would be a good option to approximate the Avincar 6 speaker system. The OEM rear door speakers get the full range signal so I would try to find some Alpine 6-1/2" speakers with the same sensitivity as the SPS-171A components in front.

Yeah I was going to find an alpine coaxial for the rear doors and just cut off the high frequencies so it matches the front doors.

However, I read your avincar review thread and a member replaced their setup ( alpines ) with the avincar and commented on how superior there were.

If I'm going to take the trouble to remove all the doors, I want to put the best speakers I can get.

I guess I'll be out of luck if elduderino isn't selling the speakers anymore

^^ the Avincar speakers aren't the "best speakers you can get". They are very good speakers for the price and for use with the OEM amp. I'm sure if you search around you could find speakers that will sound just as good as the Avincars.

i upgraded all my speakers plus added two more tweeters at two front doors. they are still used with stock amp and it pumps pretty nice. oem speakers are pretty crappy and even the stereo shop garbages them after the install.

^^ So, you have 4 tweeters now (two in the dash & two in the front doors)?

yea.. i got a 6.5" component set and installed the tweeters at the side mirror brackets and left the stocks in its original place. later i replaced the stock ones with infinity tweeters.

Dash - Infinity tweeters
Front Door - AVI 6.5" component set
Rear Door - Rockford 6.5" two way
Rear Deck - Alpine TypeS 6x9"
Trunk - Two 12" Phoenix Gold

So thats 10 speakers inside the car plus subs in the trunk

I understand the avincars aren't the best speakers, I just didn't want to spend alot of $$$ of nice speakers that would be wasted on the 18 watts RMS coming from the stock setup.

I'm in the same boat. Had been planning on picking up the Avincar's this spring but am now looking for an alternative.

And as a side question: Is anyone using the factory head unit and an aftermarket amp for thier mids and highs? A local shop advised against it but I'm thinking they just wanted to sell me a new head unit. Sorry if this becomes a hijack.
