TSX Speaker Upgrade

I plan on rectifying the way my aftermarket amp and subs are installed tomorrow, and thought about going to pick up some new Door and Rear speakers. Now I know everyone has their personal preferences, but I'm not an audiophile and am just looking for a somewhat decent improvement over the 20w RMS from stock , without spending too much.

I had considered a full set of 4-way 6.5 and 6x9's, each with a 50 RMS. Is this a pretty good improvement over stock? I could get the whole set for under $150, which is in my price range, and since I've been going along uneducated and thinking the stock system in the TSX was pretty good until I started reading here, would this be a good set to get for someone like myself?

It doesn't matter...

It doesn't matter what anyone else says...if you like the way the stock system sounds, why go through the expense and pain of changing the speakers? I think the stock system is pretty good, if a bit short of the systems I've heard in other cars (my Mini Cooper's Harmon Kardon was a LOT better, for example), but definitely better than some folks imply.

Unfortunately, sound is like taste...it's all a matter of personal preference. I have been shopping around for speakers myself, just to hear the differences, and I cannot even stand the Alpine Type S speakers that everyone goes off the deep end about (they sound muddy to me, and do not compare well to our stock speakers). I've listened to $800 MB Quarts and Focals that I couldn't stand either (since when does 'bright' to the point of harshness equal 'clear'?).

Pick a CD (or a couple) with some songs you know well. Listen to them in the car on the way to a few stereo places to get a 'baseline' of how it sounds on the stock system. Listen to the same song(s) on various other speakers at the stereo stores. Listen to a few different combinations, both with amplification and without...and make sure the settings on the head units are flat (NO bass or treble enhancement or any other EQ...try to listen to it flat in the car, too, for comparison).

If you hear something you really like and it is a price you are comfortable with, go for it. If you don't, then save your money and put it into something else you want for your ride...

Os.
