Question TSX - question about installing aftermarket HU in lower compartment

my question is has there been anyone who has installed a single DIN aftermarket HU in lower compartment of TSX & maintained functionality of the hinged compartment door?

i'm thinking that may be a cool route to go as it would make the unit totally stealth.

IF i go this route i would not be doing a unit that has a flip up screen or anything.

it'd be something along the lines of this..

i don't think it's been done the way you would like to do it. The good thing is you can remove that compartment and try to custom fit it. You may have to cut it and then can possibly have it fiberglassed for reinforcement. I say look for another compartment piece to practice on instead of losing the one you have.

thanks rex, i think i'm going to just purchase the OEM mp3 attachment kit and do it that way as that would be the path of least resistant which also equal less labor costs!

lol i agree, i used that kit for my alpine center channel, only negative thing is that the oem mp3 player is a bit wider, so standard din size applications have a minor gap on the sides

lol stock.. only addition was the alpine center channel and thats just tapped into the speaker lines
i was going to install an Eclipse AVN7000, but my friend who was giving it to me got an offer he couldnt refuse, so i decided to use the mp3 kit for the center channel.
I worked in the mobile department at Circuit City for couple of years and couldn't make up my mind of what equipment to use. Polk, Eclipse, Kicker has some nice prices for CC employees, but I was holding out for Alpine.

I want to do two sets of components, front & rear, also keep the 6x9s and possibly two 12" subs and power my center channel with a center channel signal. I have mercmans harness but i'm looking for a good processor, was hoping for the PXE, but they're not readily available. So i'm just waiting for things to come together, but i'm so anxious..

DO NOT BUY THE PXE, i have one and am returning it to alpine, its not userfriendly and you also are not supposed to use the HU volume control anymore with that unit.

after several years of trying to make a truly amazing sounding system using the stock HU i have given up. i am going to install an Alpine CDA-9887 in the lower compartment instead and let the stock HU take a long vacation.

the rest of my system reads like this

PDX4.100
PDX1.1000
Alpine Type X comps up front
Alpine Type S rears
Alpine Type X 12 inch subwoofer

i think that should get the job done!

yea i was looking around a car audio forum, they said even with the pxa the volume control has to be adjusted from the processor it self, which kind of sucks. i'm looking towards getting an Audio Control DQXS..

Mercman's Harness -> DQXS -> PDX-4.150 + PDX-4.100 + PDX-1.1000
(2) Components + 6x9s/Center Channel + Sub

Will most likely split the rear signal to get two more 'input' channels for the DQXS and then have that converted to the 8 output signals to feed the amps

How come you went with the PDX-4.100 instead of the PDX-4.150? Hope others chime in as well.. lol

fyi, the compartment opening is slightly (~1/4" or less) smaller than DIN width, and then it tapers back from there, so there's no way to keep the smooth opening/closing action of the door AND install a "full depth" DIN unit in that space...I have an OmniFI DMP1 mp3 player - the controller unit is DIN width, but only like 1/2" of depth so I was able to cut a little notch out for it...pretty ghetto but you can't really tell.

I can take some pics if it'll help you out...
