TSX No Nav: aftermarket video screen install

I don't post much here, hope there are some active TSX guys.

I have a '04 TSX 6MT, no nav. At the time I bought the car there was no advantage to the nav system for me. I added an XM Commander to the factory aux input and it works OK, sound is passable but I hate the tiny display.

I thought about trading for an '06 to get NAV, what I really like is the XM display on the video display. However I also want to add more sources- ipod, etc. I would lose my ass trading my car though, so I'm looking at going aftermarket.

I am looking at putting a 6.5" Alpine touch screen monitor in the lower console, where the DIN pocket and the "not an ashtray is located. Has anybody tried this? I hate the way the flip-out monitors look, I want to have the thing installed permanently and in a way that looks like it belongs there. Is there enough mounting depth, i.e. are there weirdo ECUs or A/C equipment located behind that area?

Once I have the monitor installed, I'm looking at using the Alpine Vehicle Hub adapter. Then I can daisy chain whatever Ai-Net units I want, i.e. XM, ipod, nav, rear camera, DVD player etc. According to my local Alpine dealer, Alpine will be showing a new "Vehicle Hub Pro" at CES that will do exactly what I want and give me touch screen control of all of the sources.

I will continue to route the audio through the factory deck so I can retain the volume controls on the steering wheel, and I like having the OEM six disc to swap discs in and out whenever I want. If I feel like it I might upgrade the audio later. The installer I talked to said they have good luck with the JL Cleansweep, but basically the sound is OK for me. I've had loud stereos before (and I have one in my S2000) and I'm pretty much over 130 db.

Any thoughts? TIA.

have you done this yet? I'm in the same boat as you and was thinking of installing a Nav in the lower storage area (never use it anyway).

holy resurrection, Batman!

I was just looking into doing this for my 06 TSX 6MT. has anyone actually gotten an after-market monitor to fit in the extra single DIN compartment? is it usable with a 6mt?

There is a member on here that has a single din mounted down there. A double din would be very difficult. It would take alot of time and work to get the screen to look decent.

Yes, you can install a 1-DIN flip-out navi screen in the top storage pocket, with the acura mp3 player trip that adapts it to DIN size, without problems on a stick. I have neither (stick nor flip-out) but I have been in 1 with that setup.

Also, user 'lito' has a setup like that too, check for his treads and pics.

There's plenty of room ...depth shouldn't be a problem either:

rmjjensen - that's a pretty sweet looking setup - what components are you using?
