TomTom 5 Comments Please
TomTom 5 Comments Please
I'm looking at the TomTom 5 to put on my T-Moblie MDA, but I have a few questions for anyone that has it or knows about it.
1. What's the total cost? TomTom site says $150 for software, $150 for bluetooth receiver, and I can only find the universal PDA mount on the British site. On a more F***ed up note, the British site offers all 3 in a package AND includes a power adapter for both the bluetooth hookup and whatever phone you might have, but I can't find this on the US site.
2. Is it crap? $150 for a GPS system worries me, but if it's decently reliable then I'd be happy.
If there's other/better PDA software out there that wil run a Windows Mobile please let me know.

I've got TomTom on my PDA and on my MPX220 cell phone. The thing rocks! Even with the maps they've got available for Canada it works excellent. I was in San Fran last year and it helped me get between Sactown and San Fran for 2 weeks... go with it!
Check out www.buygpsnow.com though as you'll get a great deal on the package. I got the receiver and holder was tossed in plus got the software for all relatively cheap.

I ordered the TomTom 5 software and a bluetooth GPS receiver that's about as big as a pack of gum, and received it friday. Installation was easy and fast.
I'm glad to say I have come up with yet ANOTHER use for the TSX's "Not an Ashtray" area. That's the new home for my bluetooth GPS receiver. I found that with the sunroof cover slid back the angle was perfect. I have a 6MT and tested the signal while shifting through gears to see if the signal might go to crap on a certain shift (3 or 5 most likely), and it didn't.
I'm thoroughly impressed with the software so far and for only $200 w/receiver I can't believe it's so good. I never thought there'd be a day when I could use my phone as a navigation system. Awesome.
