We don't do the other ones anymore - most everyone who ordered it had trouble mounting it or whatever so we stopped making it - the new piece is a metra kit and a double din trim ring molded into that and refinished, hence the price tag. These are special order pieces that we hand make as needed. Sorry if you guys think it's too much $$, but it's the time that goes into making the finished product.

But seriously, I may be selling my IVA-D300 to get a D1, how long does it take to get one?

In other words, kind of like this one:
http://www.installer-data.com/item/d...php?it=99-7868
and streeteffectz mods it by removing the lower storage area to convert it to house 2 1-DIN units or a double-DIN unit?

Oh, absolutely, I didn't mean to make it sound like: "What, it's just a metra kit for $250?" I've seen a bunch of the photos of the mods they do and the work is very slick.
Basically I was just curious to know if a 1-DIN metra kit, and the mounting brackets it comes with, can be used to hold 2 separate 1-DIN units, or does a custom mounting bracket need to be made for the metra kit to mount it in the CL dash when using the 1-DIN metra to hold 2 1-DINs? Sounds to me like the 1-DIN metra kit can hold 2 1-DIN units without modding the mounting hardware, which is good to hear.
And yeah, streeteffectz definitely do some top notch work, no question.

thanks for the reveal! (metra with double din).
I sanded my metra in my 99. After more then a year, it started looking a little tired. I didn't notice until I took it out this evening. The overall effect was that my interior looked old and dirty. The reality was that the metra needed painting. I'm going to freshen everything before I put it in my 02.
What scares the hell out of me is that if I paint it and then the paint scratches off, it'll look worse then if I had left it nasty-like from the factory. (why do they put that ugly texture on it?
So I am wondering if I should try painting it. I am damn good with a sprayer/can but I've never had good uck keeping paint on plastic long term. Any suggestions? Is there a super hard, super sticky enamel out there that won't chip or flake off next year? Or should I use shoe polish...
thanks

i know wheere you can get double din dash kit for CL/TL 2nd gen for $150 Custom Made, Fibreglassed so stronger than just bondo, which would just crack.
And Re-finished to match the dash.
And as streeteffects said, it is expensive labor wise to make these pieces and get the custom color matched. But I honestly don't think its worth $250

Its mounted by using the factory ISO Metal Brackets, it has perfect holes lined up for single din or double din, this is merely a frame to fill in the gap, and you do not mount your unit directly to the DASH KIT. Mounting it ISO to your vehicle will make it a stronger install, making it more difficult for theft rather than just tearing out the dash kit and taking the stereo.
This kit isn't actually ment for the kendwood ddx7017 its meant for another double din but this is just an example. As well this was a picture before it was color matched by the vinyl repair guys.
This is a flat black.

Sorry I tried re-sizing it and now it won't let me edit that post.
So here it is again, super big
P.S. This is the one they made for me, but it wasn't finished yet but just to give you an idea. They made this one to fit the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 Prototype.
As well it wasn't color matched yet. Yes for all your critics out there, this was refinished again because of the curves around the edges, these kits are hand made for each different unit. ie. Eclipse Double Din, Pioneer AVIC-D1 double din, Kenwood Double Din, etc.

I Found this on ebay, not sure about it though it looks kind of fishy. I asked if he had one for the second generation TL and he said this kit works for first and second generation TL. What you guys think?
