Nope, can't do it. They won't work with an aftermarket HU. Even if you could, it would be pointless to put a higher-end head unit in with crappy paper cone speakers. Upgrade speakers first.
I do agree somewhat with NSX. You should replace the speakers. You can however use the factory speakers with a new head unit. It just sounds pretty bad. You can add a sub without any problems. I ran into trouble because the stock speakers are so bad, you can not turn the aftermarket head unit up enough to hear the sub. Even with the gain maxed on my MTX 500d, you just can not hear the bass. The stock speakers just sound horrible and any louder volume level.

i thought there was an interface (soundgate?) that allows you to hook up an aftermarket headunit with stock-bose everything else...so all you would have to do is run the sub rca output to the new bass setup???
man it is possible to use the stock door speakers with an after market headunit... i ran this for like 6 months until i got enough to upgrade the door speakers... yeah the bloze speakers will not sound as good as some aftermarket speakers but they will do... what i did was use the crossover built into my radio and cut off everything under 125 herz to the door speakers and actually they sounded decent... and the only adapter you will need is the metra 98 and up wiring harness.... this will effectively bypass the stock eq as well...

I just don't understand why someone would spend all that money on a new headunit and run the crappy Bose speakers off it?

NSX....It is very possible to use the factory speakers with an aftermarket head unit. The question was, is it possible and it is. How it sounds does not matter in answering the question. Like Shaw said, it works for now. I am still using the factory speakers with an Alpine 7893. At moderate levels, it sounds fine. It will do until I finish my kick panels with a set of Alpine Type R's. Saying it is not possible is misleading. It will work is the bottom line. Just do not expect miracle sound.
