Tapping into the rear 6x9s for LOC

I know there are several ways to do it, but I'm curious, how did you guys do it? Did you ghetto rig it as in cut the wire, then use a "barrel connector" or soldering to patch it up? Or I was thinking maybe connecting it directly to the metal on the speakers with a connector (pictured below). Will polarity matter?

Also I'm curious, where did you connect your remote wire for your amp. Concensus says in the console cig lighter. And did you just solder it in or what?

What car is this?
On my CLS I tapped into teh rear speakers at the stock amp. I used wire taps. On the CLS there's a remote wire at the stock amp I also tapped into.

It looks like a TSX.

Relative polarity is crucial. Absolute polarity is not.

If you get one backwards relative to the other, your subs will have no bass.

Actually, smartypants, in the ghetto uninsulated wires are twisted onto the speaker terminals.

Butt connectors are not ghetto. They are functional and work well when quality connectors are properly used.

But it's cool if you don't like them.

If you don't want to use them, I would use heat shrink and solder on the wires on the harness.

If you are anal enough to solder wires onto the speaker terminals, you better be anal enough to add another set of disconnects too (serviceability, you know).

I totally forgot that this forum is univeral and not TSX specific. (It's a 06 TSX/ NAV). On another note, I use the butt/barrel connectors all the time. I was in a hurry and actually meant by ghetto rigging as in twisting the wires together and taping em up with electrical tape.

Anyhow, thanks for the replies. What do you guys think about clipping onto the metal with the connector pictured there?

Also I'm trying to take out the console so I can run my remote wire (cig lighter in console). The thing won't budge. Any tips. I read somewhere that there was also a switchable 12v coming into the factory amp (green w/ a strip or something.. I'd use a voltmeter of course). I have no clue where that is though.

FYI.. this is for a sub and amp install. If your amp comes with high level inputs, then there's no need for a LOC (line output converter) because it's already built into the amp. A LOC converts the signal your rear speakers are receiving to one that your sub can use ( eg speaker wire[high] to RCA cables[low]).

And I found the instructions on removing the console here

(thanks Arcticcl9)

Just now debating on whether or not to tap into cig lighter or factory amp (wherever that is) for the remote... and if I should use the connector pictured on post #1 to tap into the 6x9s
