Tach won't read.

I have the 97 2.2 and just did an engine swap. Everything runs smooth, works and the tachometer was getting legit readings. Finally went to drive it, got to the end of the driveway and it stopped registering. The needles just stay on "0" but drives with no problem at all. I got home, turned the car off and then it's like the battery is dead. I don't really know where to begin, electrical isn't my thing. I'll check the fuse and battery to see if that is the problem but any help would be great.
