System setup

hey guys i have a few pretty simple questions. Im currently trying to get a system in my car on a pretty tight budget, when i say system i mean just a amp, sub and sub enclosure. I currently have a fairly powerfull but cheap branded amp (Boss 695 700x2ch) and im looking for a good sounding but budget wise sub. I am trying to keep it to only a single sub to conserve space in the trunk. I would prefer to go with a 12'' sub but im not sure if there is a real large difference between 10 and 12 inch subs. So any suggestions would be much appericiated. btw i drive a 03 TL-P and i am keeping the stock headunit

much thanks

What do you consider a tight budget? how much are you willing to spend on a sub?

I would personally go with a 12 inch Sub, but it's all in personal preference. 10's will generally play tighter, while 12's will give you those lower notes. It also varies from Manufacturer to Manufacturer.

You should shop around your local car audio store. What kind of music do you listen to? Bring a couple of CD's with you and listen to a few brands. It's difficult to tell how it's gonna sound IN your car as opposed to a sound room, but you'll get the Idea.

What's your price range? I'm sure a lot of people here can give you recommendations based on your budget

If you get an amp with speaker-level inputs (like the SS Angina I have in my TL), all you have to do is pickup the sub speaker wire, a power from the battery, and a ground wire, makes install a lot easier. a 12" sub box takes up a lot of room, why not go for a 10" sub in a small sealed box (in the .65 cu ft range) - will sound good and won't take up all that much space.

$100 isn't gonna get you far, if you want the amp, box, and sub. I see you live in greensburg. I live in pittsburgh, I have a dual ported bandpassed box, with 2 10" kenwood tornadoes that I would sell you for $75. Then all you'd need is the amp. Let me know if you're interested. PM me.

Since you're on a tight budget and you want the most bang for your buck this is what I suggest. Get a single 12" subwoofer something like a JL 12W0, shouldn't have any trouble finding these for about $100. Then go out and find you a prefabricated sealed enclosure for the 12". If you look around places like Ebay you should be able to find one for around $50- $75. Try to find a larger enclosure, will make your subwoofer more efficient and also make it play lower.

C The "S" ...i looked at that sub and i see it only handles 125 watts RMS im not sure what RMS means but as you can see in my first post the amp i have to work with supplies 700 watts per channel. I suppose im willing to spend more on a sub and enclosure as long as its able to handle the power of the amp thanks

I did see that you mentioned that you have a Boss amp. Trust me those things do not actually put out that much power. They may put out that much power at max output and @ 14.4v from the battery, which is almost never the case. I used to be in the home and car audio business, we've done some really high powered systems with the W0 line of subs. One system I remember doing had 2 15W0s with a PPI PC1400, which is 800 watts mono. The system was awesome it was loud and he never came in saying I need new subs cause I blew the ones I have. The majority of the time when people blow speakers is because of lack of power and the user pushing the amp into clipping. Hope this helps.

give or take $50? How about the JL Audio W1v2. They are relatively new, and have new technology. Some of the W7 technology (JL's top of the line) trickled down into this sub.
In regards to the Amp, I think that is the bridged rating. It should be more like 250 x 2. I don't know too much about the manufacturer or how accurate the rating is, But it may still be too much power for a $100 sub. How about 2 JL W1v2's? That should run you about $320 or so Retail in a sealed box. Of course you may be able to find cheaper online. Then again, you can get a single more powerful sub.

I think it's the WLS rating.
