Subs mounted facing each other?

I'm toying with the idea of building boxes for my subs so they'll fit into each of the rear corners of the trunk. I'm even considering building fiberglass enclosures since I'll be able to get a much better fit.

My question is will having them face each other cause cancellation issues? I figure the width of the trunk in the corners is about 45 - 48" or so. I'm guessing upon installation the distance between the two to be @ 32 - 35" or so.

They'll be receiving roughly 650W @ 4 ohm mono, if it makes a difference.

thx.

i dont think there should be any big issues, if possible you could try putting a small angle on your design so that they arent facing each other exactly, but i dont think there will be that big of an issue

Good point. I didn't think of giving them an offset. I always think in a linear fashion. Giving them a slight angle should negate any possible cancellation issues.

KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. I'm going to start planning the enclosures over the next couple of days. Luckily a buddy of mine is very knowledgeable when it comes to this sort of thing.

I guess I'll keep everyone posted via my signature webpage.

Thanks for the "pop" in the chin that I needed!!!!

i do not see this causing any problems at all.. especially if you put both of the speakers at an angle... but even with them firing directly at each other there is to much air space for this to make a dramatic difference... i could see if the speakers were in an isobaric enclosure firing at one another then you might have to put some more thought into it but this is not the case you will be just fine....

First of all, if you fire the subs facing eachother, it WILL cause cancelation issues. Bass works in a horseshoe, that's how that frequency travels. If you mount the subs facing eachother, sideways in the trunk, and put the port up, or behind, that will sound horrible. Nomatter how much airspace is between them, the fact of the matter is that the subs actually will work against eachother. Kicking them at an angle would be the best idea. But never fire them directly at eachother. Also, if you are only running 2, and you can get the box to the back part of the trunk, tune to port to fire through the stock location. Where our Bose sub is. That would be rediculously loud.
