i have 2 12" image dynamics IDQ serise. it says the reconmended power is 350 each. right now they i have 2 jl e1200 amps ruinnig them which means 200 watts per sub. would you guys think it would make a noticble difference if i purchased the MTX Audio Thunder801D which will give it each about 400 watts. read some reviews on the amp and it seems to be a pretty good amp for the price. what do you guys think?

 

I have an 801D running my Infinity 12.1 sub, and I'm happy with it. Don't know how that would compare to the e1200.

BUT, I will say that I switched for the same reason--I had a 200w amp (at 4 ohms, Rockford), and it wasn't powerful enough, so I went with the 801d, which is 400 watts at 4 ohms.

 

was the change noticeable? did the subs sound a lot louder or clearer? and the 801d is 800watts rms (countinuos) with 2 ohms right?

 

Very noticable. Yep, same amp. I'm pushing a single Infinity "Perfect 12.1" sub in a 1.0 cf sealed enclosure.

I believe the specs--I've been a fan of MTX for years. This is my third MTX amp. (My main is a 564, and my last car had a 4160). Many people would recommend much higher-end amps, but for me MTX has the right performance/value mix.

Are your subs sealed or ported? I'm sure it'll be fine either way, but ported would give you more volume. Just make sure the boxes are the right size for the subs.

Double power, which is what you are talking about here and you will get a 3db increase in sound. Which is noticeable.. It will sound much better.. of course this is IF this is CLEAN power going to those subs..

MOST subs, including your Image Dynamics are totally fine with playing above RMS.
