sub setup help

i have the 2000 acura tl with all the trunk space and about 700usd to spend... is that enough? i would rather take as minimal space as possible since i go on trips a lot like camping. i saw someones setup and it just took the space off the side. the box had to be customized and it looked madd clean... any opinion is welcome and thanks for this site!!!

if you want a setup to the side, i think you'd have to fiberglass it. Uncald4 does amazing work with his fiberglass setups but they get pretty expensive. For that amount of money, you can get a good sub+amp combo that can get pretty loud.

Do a single 10" in a ported box tuned down to 28-30 hz if the sub can handle it. I like the Diamond D3 10"s and theyre a damn good sub for the sound/price, weve sold many at the shop and all were happy with them!!

If u get the Diamond D3 10", get the dual 4 ohm model and either the Diamond D1 400.1 or the D3 600.1 amp

im just guessing that the d3 600.1 is a higher model and better wattage = louder music?

That's install dependent... I know of a Blazer that did over 160 db legal on a TL meter in competition on only like 1kw, but yet I've personally never done better than a 138.8db with 1200w... That blazer was an extreme class car with concrete everywhere and 3" thick glass, whereas my car was built for Street A and 0 deadener of any kind... Like I said, it's all install dependent. But, if you were to do a drop in test with the exact same setup, you should get louder by upping the power. This is assuming you have the electrical upgrades to support the up in power...

The 400.1 is 400 watts RMS @ 2 ohms and the the 600.1 is also 400 watts RMS @ 2 ohms but it also goes down to a 1 ohm load and puts out 600 watts RMS which is good incase u ever decide to get another sub. Also, its better to have more power and have the gain down than have less power and have the gain all the way up.

man u love those diamonds dont u lol. u suggest u go to a car audio web site and do some reading. caraudio.com/forum is a good one. or go here http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/f...eferrerid=1202 . Are you looking for new or used. For 700 and buying used you can slam with the killerness. I'd say a sundown saz1500 with maybe a 10" re audio dd audio fi audio bl or q, aq sub. or what not. the saz1500 will run you about 250-325 shipped. and it is 1500 rms not max. If i remember right someone on here has one for sale if i remember right.. ahhhhhum....

And remember you ususally dont blow subs from to much power but rather from under distorted dirty skanky ho power. Get a good amp and set the gains with a multi meter.

Lol sure do bro, its 1 of the main lines we carry at the shop & weve never had 1 return with them, and if theyre installed by a Diamond retailer they have a 3 year warranty instead of just 1. Jermaine Taylors Phantom had all Alpine Type X and we switched it all to Diamond and sounded worlds better!! Check out our website in my signature and see sum of the work we've done with them.

OP, how much space are you willing to give up in your trunk? The more space you're willing to give up (generally) will determine how loud you're going to be able to get...

wow thanks for the replies... i just need one sub and im not trying to compete with anyone. i guess i just want something to blow me away not others. so i guess ill go check other forums and learn more about it before i start buying something. I will get the uncald4's trunk box and see how that works. i am actually debating between diamond and JL ill probably get the 600.1 diamond amp

How many channels you need is determined by what you're wanting to power. If you want to add a set of components, you could pick up an MB Quart Discuss 4125 and bridge the rear channels to a sub, and use the front channels to power a nice set of comps. If you only want to power the sub, a small monoblock or 2 channel amp would work. It's all up to you and how far you're going to take the install...

Basically... With that $700 you're talking about spending, you should be able to get a decent to good set of components (better if you don't mind buying used), new hu (again same thing as the comps), amp, sub, install gear, etc. I think when I priced out everything for my buddy's truck, I had new hu, comps, amp, subs (2 8's), wire, boxes, etc. for about $750-800. If you don't mind putting in the work, you can get more for your money... If you want to buy everything or pay someone to do it, you're not going to get as much... BTW, where are you located?

All u need right now is a mono-block or a 2 channel and bridge it, and when u update your mids/highs get u a 4 channel amp. Or like Matt was sayin get a decent 4 channel and bridge the rear for the sub and use the other for front speakers. & yea if u plan on getting someone to install it all thats gonna eat up a lil chunk of it too.

Have you tuned them that low and heard it in person? I haven't, but from what I've heard from 1st hand accounts, the 1508's will play well when tuned at 32hz, whereas the other, larger DD's will not. Most of the other DD's like the higher (38-40hz) tuning, but from what I've heard from people that've done it, the 1508 and most if not all AQ subs will do well when tuned at 32hz.
