Sub Install Question

2002 TL-S
I am looking to install my 10in JCL sub in the trunk but didn't want to loose my trunk space.. so I was wonder if anyone has made a custom box that goes down the drivers side of the trunk, I was thinking of putting the sub where the pockets are? Has anyone done this or does anyone know if I will have a problem. I would like to know before I go and buy the wood/materials..

i could have sworn i saw someone do this in a thread previously. i would just try a search if you haven't allready. if i recall it was minimal loss in trunk space.

i will say though if you look at something similiar in size to the sub i have you won't lose much space. even with the box in the trunk, i can still fit five (5) 20lb bags of kitty litter, one (1) 30lb bag of birdseed, 3 bags of groceries, and a medium size box of plastic shelving in the trunk ALL AT ONCE. i wouldn't worry too much. that trunk is so big it won't matter. unless you really want it to have a show appearance, then that's another story.

i am in the process of building a box like that myself right now, except it's for a single 12. I'll upload pictures tomorrow of the progress made (all that is left to do it figerglass the back of it and cover it).

This is NOT MINE - It's a copy of a file I got from this forum when I was trying to decide what to do with mine. If this is your car, please reply and take appropriate credit. I was quoted over $500 *just* to build a similar fiberglass box like this to hold a 10" sub - was told a 12" would never fit.

I had a very similar situation as you - could not afford to lose the trunk space, as I have a 2 year old, and this is the "family truckster." I ended up going with a prebuilt JL Audio 10"box, that I can remove at any time when taking a trip with a lot of luggage. It lays flat most of the time, but I can stand it on end (speaker toward back seat) for most trips, so I don't throw luggage on top. If we pack a LOT of stuff, it is easy to remove, *WAY* cheaper than the custom box, and I only lose the bass for a few days a year tops. I would have gone with the 12" if my amp didn't suck. Anyway, this is mine:

Hope this helps.
