Sub enclosure question
Sub enclosure question
I got my sub and box yesterday and i had a little problem. Well i dunno if its really a problem. The sub doesn't really fit ALLL the way down. There is like a very small gap between the sub and the box. I was wondering if this is a problem and should i take care of it before i screw the sub into place. Like one side fits down all the way but then the other side sticks up a little. I attached a pic just to give u an idea.
It's an enclosure. Should be air tight.
It'll still work, sure, would it sound good? probably not
take a jigsaw and make the hole slightly bigger. little by little until its a snug fit. Or if you have the tools, get the sub inner diameter specs, and a router and have at it

Yeah, well its not really Styrofoam but its some kinda foam. Is it not supposed to be there? Any suggestions on making it more air tight. I got it to fit all the way in. Anything else besides that?
lol wierd, yeah i was thinking its not supposed to be there, then w/e if it fits i would just leave it. Just screw it in and push on the sub, if its hard to push and comes back up slowly congrats you are air tight
... are you telling him to push down on the cone? you should never do that could damage the voice coils like that...
the idea of that foam is to create the air-tight seal if the face of the box is not completely smooth (which is theoretically impossible). anyway, the foam will contour with the box, and this will give you an airtight seal. it's the same as when some of the SPL competitors put duck tape under their subs, then screw them down.
another way to check an see if your box is airtight, is to start playing some music with a good amount of bass. then run your hands over ever seam of the box. if you can't feel air moving out anywhere, you're airtight...
