Stereo wizards please help

I would like to remove the rear sub, and add a Jl audio 12w7 in its exact spot I know A lot of custom work will need to be done, a custom back dash, and so on. Is it worth it, Everything would appear stock even the existing grill would fit, just recess the sub down into the custom box. With my box sealed completely all the sound would be bounceing of the rear glass and comming forward, basicly the same principle that acura used just much more bass. Do you think that there would be so much pressure or bass that I would have to worry about the the back glass coming loose. I want to keep as much trunk space as possible. Please help any info would be helpful.

Thanks

dont do it. its alot of work. austin i believe has done this on the other site. he has a cardomain page if you wanna find it. i think he did it im not sure. neways, theres alot more involved. the bars that you see under the sub are holding your trunk up. if you remove em your gonna have problems. if you can develop a new system that does the same shit as the bars then go for it, but the cost wont justify the means. just get a box and do it the way every1 else does it. it.ll be hella lot cheaper

Tpatel covered most of the stuff. The major things unique to this job would be to reinforce the rear deck, cut away some of the stock rear deck and redesign the trunk lid torsion bar setup to use gas struts instead. You might also need to add other reinforcement to the sub enclosure to take some of the weight off of the rear deck. Depends on the design.

Would you be doing it yourself or having a shop do it? I think a good percentage of shops would tell you that its not necessary…just put subs in the trunk. I really have no idea what a shop would charge. If you’re an audio nut and looking for an install challenge, then it might be worth it to you.

I asked a while back if anyone had done this (first thread below). Read thru it to get some opinions. I have since done much of my install. I posted a few initial pix a couple months ago (thread 2). I have done a lot more since then. Box, amp rack and floor are all done in the rough, gas struts are installed, etc... Still has a little ways to go though. I was planning to have it completely finished by now but I broke my hand which has kept me from getting any work done.

i have seen a install where a guy did put a 10w7 or a 12w7 in the stock location.. i believe it was on cardomain... and he even hid the amps under the rear seat.. so basically i know it is possible.. the question is do you have the money, time or tools to do the job.. personally i dont think you are going to get any better performance with the sub located in the stock position then you are with say the sub facing thru the ski pass thru..
