Stereo ?, again!
Stereo ?, again!
ok guys, i am not understanding whats going on here. i have a 5ch kicker 700.5 amp, 1ch is dedicated to the sub, pushes 420rms. the sub is an infinity 10.1d, rated at 350rms max. the guy at crutchfield recommended this sub, and man it sounds awesome and its gotten rave reviews. but my problem is a few weeks back i noticed that mostly on rap, when it really hits, like on the song "breathe" by fabulous, it sounds like a rattle, not the boom of a sub, play rock or rap thats not really hitting, can't notice it. crutchfield had me test the leads on the sub, one set was at 6ohms vs 4, so they sent me a new one, sounded normal again, and then just thurs i notice it again, rattling sound. so, i can play this game for 3yrs and keep getting new subs under warranty, but i don't want to. is this sub getting too much power? i turned the gain down a tad bit on when i reinstalled the replacement sub. the gain isn't even 1/3 up overall. everyone says more power is better, but is 70watts to much? i am considering the alpine type r 10" since it can handle up to 500rms but not sure if it'll be as loud since its 5db less. whats your thoughts?
honestly, ya. Sure, more power is great, but the sub is tested and its limits labeled for a reason. Either get another sub, or get another amp. And as far as the alpine not hitting harder cause it's 5 lbs less, dont let weight completely fool you. It's all on how well it's built ie; leads, solder points etc. Go with the alpine, see how you like it.
You know, I should probably help, but considering you bought it from Crutchfield, maybe I should let them handle it.
I suspect the following:
1) You probably have the bass boost setting on your amp way up. You should turn it down.
2) The Kicker amp is a POS. We've seen and heard of them causing a lot of problems.
3) The gain is NOT a power output control.
4) If you have that big an amp, how big is your power and ground wire? Is your amp clipping when it runs out of juice?

well, the bass boost was up, over half way, i am calling them to get a sub under warranty. the ground wire is what kicker said, i think 4guage, whatever the fuse was to be, and i have a capacitor also. i never hear anything out of the norm from the speakers, it doesn't hesitate playing loud at all. i am suspecting the bass boost was an issue here.
as far as a kicker amp being a POS, what would you recommend? i got it because it was all in one etc, had good power ratings, and didn't want a trunk full of subs and amps. i was planning on getting the same amp for the speakers i just bought off a memeber, the boston acoustics pro 5, and then getting most likely the same sub.
