Yes, you can keep using your steering wheel controls and even add 4 more steering wheel buttons (7 total) for a/m headunit. Your a/m headunit must have infrared control.
The part you need is Peripheral Components PESWI3. It's a infrared learning transmitter that has a single wire to hook-up to your factory radio plug.
See http://www.peripheral-aamp.com/perip..._interface.htm
If you want to add more buttons than the 3 factory, use the provided resistor network that came with the PESWI3 and add 4 Radio Shack buttons Cat.#: 275-646. These black (or red) buttons fit inside the 4 screw hole openings on the back side of the plastic covers on the steering wheel (At least they did on my Honda Odyssey, TL might be different). A little glue or black silicon holds them in place.
I can write up exactly how to do this and show a picture of my installed buttons if your interested.

Any headunit with a infrared remote control should work. The installation issue is not will it work, but where to mount the infrared transmitter eye (LED sized). It needs to point at the head unit. A center console position pointing at the headunit can work good.
