steering wheel audio controls

has anyone been able to hook up the steering wheel controls to an aftermarket system?

I got a kenwood receiver...can I control the volume from the wheel?

I did and added more buttons in the same time. There is a kit from Peripheral (something SWX or SWX something). It worked nicely.

The one my buddy's shop sells is basically a learning remote. You connect it to the stock steering wheel controls, and then program the unit to the aftermarket radio's wireless remote codes. It requires you to mount an IR transmitter in line of sight of the aftermarket radio. Of course, your aftermarket radio must have a wireless remote for this to work. Dealer cost is around $40, sells for around $80.

Is there a way to add more functions to the stock HU? The new TL controls on the wheel would look nice

I ordered this but have not had time to figure it out yet. I spent about an hour with it one day.

If someone installs this please do a step by step install guide for us with pics!
