Speakers
Speakers
I hate the way my stock speakers sound and I want to change them But some clown told me I have to run new speaker wire from the new speakers to the radio. Is this true ? Can I by pass the prongs on the stock wiring and splice it?? Thanks for your help!

Oh Southbound!!
Wrong!! You can use the existing wires. You may have to do some cutting and splicing. Southbound should be along here soon with a more length explaination.
j/k with ya' Southbound
I just just looked at my favorite. I don't have the speaker wire thread book marked. Do a search on "speaker wire" and look at the most recent thread. Tons of info!

Hey PAW,
Thanks for handling this one for me
Yeah, being told that you HAVE to replace the factory wires is total BS. While better wires could be pulled in, they are not necessary. Just cut off the stock connector and recrimp new terminal lugs onto the stock wire... or else cut the stock connector and its wires back a few inches and crimp a spliced pair of wires that fit your new speakers. Just make sure the new speakers FIT the car... or else be prepared for some extra work. The stock speakers are small 6-1/2inch speakers. Large 6-1/2 inch replacements may call for a lot of extra work.
