i have an 02 TLS, just replaced the stock stereo with a kenwood DDX 719. here are the specs on it

Audio - Full Bandwidth Power 22Wx4
- Preout Level(V) 4.0 Volts
- Preout Impedance(Ω) Under 600Ω
- Speaker Impedance(Ω) 4-8Ω
- Output Power +4 dBm (MAX), 0 dBm (AVE), Power Class2

i really don't want to go through the added expense of an amp powering the speakers. Just wanted to power the speakers off of the head unit. I want a little more volume and little more thump from the speakers. I already have a JL W6 sub in the trunnk but i've heard that the sound is still crappy if the speakers aren't amped up. I was thinking of putting in Alpine Type S speakers because i heard they are good when powered by the head unit.

Anyone replace the speakers? what did they sound like? Any tips would be appreciated.

If you replace the stock head unit and put new speakers in doors, then it will sound awesome. The stock speakers are crap, and they rely on the stock EQ to brighten up their sound.

 

Type S are a great speaker to power off of the head unit, they're very close to oem specs. I have a full set of Alpine Type S's I'm looking to sell, let me know if you're interested
