Well i was bored this weekend and decided to face my fear of opening door panels. So...I replaced my stock TL speakers with some old Polk Audio EX speakers I had laying around. My logic was that just about any speakers would sound better than the stock ones. So after replacing the speakers i noticed that the sound was more vibrant and alive. In comparison to the stock speakers, the highs were more realistic and crisp. The mids though, seemed to be basically non-existent. I am running these off the stock HU which will be replaced soon with an Alpine CDA-9855. This is not my permanent setup, just one to get me by until i can afford a solid amp and component set. One question though, I seem to be able to hear more hiss inbetween tracks or when the volume is really low. Is that a headunit issue or some sort of grounding issue? Overall, I am happy with this upgrade, so i thought id share

If you just took the bose speakers out and replaced them without bypassing the bose EQ that will cause your speakers to sound the way they do now. The bose EQ boosts high and low frequencies to make for the inadequte bose speakers. Putting any other normal speaker will sound brighter than normal. From what I remember the polk EX's are some what on the bright side to begin with.

 

Yeah the EX's are pretty bright, but not too bad, I can handle it like this for now. I'll be gettin a new HU soon, thats why i didnt go through the trouble of bypassing the stock EQ.
