Speaker depth 2G

Did my research but didnt exactly find the answer. What is the deepest speaker someone has put into the doors? ive read they suggest 2 - 2 1/16 but i was wondering how big you can get it with spacers and no problems. Thanks ahead.

not very much at all - I have the Focal "slim" series and they clear with like 1/8 of an inch left. I think they are 2 1/8 inch deep - not much. You can make a spacer out of plywood/mdf - but not much more than 1/2 inch or the door panel wont snap back on . You need to get a speaker that isnt very deep.

sorry for the dig here, but i at one point wanted to know this too. i installed focal access 165a into my car, all i did was put some rubberized foam insulation between the basket and the speaker, and cut the back of the basket off/notch the ring to sit speaker and trim the tabs off. no prob, clears the window np. front doors i trimmed the bottom od the door cut out to clear the speaker terminals with no problems. all you need is a dremel. the 165a is 2.6" deep

A newbee here, I just bought my 06 tsx last week and I had a set of Polk Audio I had just bought for my old car, I actually got them to fit in the TSX. They are the MMC6500's and the mounting depth is 2-13/16" (7.14cm). I had to cut the door hole a little bigger and then i just put some foam around the space between the door and the speaker so the speaker would match up to the factory grill. I also had 5x7 MMC5700 series with a mounting depth of 2-11/16" (6.83cm) that I had installed in the rear doors. I just took a jig saw to make the oval hole and did the same with the foam. They sound awesome, crystal clear sound (but not as loud w/o an amp). I didn't take pics, but I will be pulling the panels back off to sound proof very soon. if anyone is interested, I could post some pics when I do this.

I'd like to see some pics of the front doors. I don't know how they compare to a CLS, but any input would be good. What are you going to use to sound deaden?

I'll get pics up this weekend. as far as sound, there is this stuff at Home Depot called "Storm Guard". It comes in a roll like roofing tar (the material has clear plastic on one side and a peel off paper back on the other) This works the exact same as Dynomate but extremly cheaper. A friend told me about this so I did my trunk already and it's all true. No rattles. The peel off side is sticky, so no need for glue. This does sound like a cheap way to go, but every litlle bit helps.
