Speaker is Dead???
Speaker is Dead???
I was wondering if you guys could tell me what may be wrong here.
The other day, I noticed that the sound of the stereo in the car had changed a little when using FM. Then, when I switched to an AM station, the rear passenger speaker started to sound really distorted at medium volumes with a serious vibration.
I did a fader and balance test and found that the speaker was sounding like it had blown. At the same volume setting, the sound was dull with no detail and about 20% of the level of the other speakers.
I took my car to Good Guys to have my Sirius Jensen unit installed (I love that thing) and I asked those guys if it was the speaker. They said that it was either the stock amp or the stock headunit and probably not the speaker. They said to take it to the dealership.
So, do they know what they are talking about or are they full of it? Or is it that they don't want to touch a Bose system?
Thanks in advance.

IT could be any of the three. If you're talking about the STOCK blose speaker... From your description... there should be no reason to rule out the speaker. Since it is the easiest to get to, take the door panel off and check it out.
The Blose speaker is definitely a POS. If it turns out OK, well then, I'd take it to the dealer to have them check out the electronic portion of the system. While you're at it, do yourself a favor and put in some better aftermarket speakers when you have the door panels off.
P.S. People working at Good Guys "TYPICALLY" don't have a clue... I said "typically". There is always an exception, in case any guys on this board work or have worked there.
