Spare tire subwoofer

After seeing how much of my trunk the amp rack and subwoofer box are going to take up, I'm starting to re-think about going with a fiberglass enclosure to replace my spare tire. I don't think the baby stroller will fit with the subs and the box is way too heavy to move around everytime I need to have the stroller with me.

Will the Acura roadside service bring a spare tire for you if you have a flat? Do they take forever to get there?

Any suggestions on what woofer works best in an enclosure such as this? I don't know what volume would be available to the sub since I haven't measured the space.

I need to come up with something that takes up less space than my current box.

Thanks for any suggestions.

hey bozz i have considered this type of install on a couple of my previous cars.... since i am a big jl audio fan i decided that the 12w3v2 would work in a enclosure such as this and would probably give you some pretty good sound... as for the amp i would go with one jl 300/2... but if you are looking for a 2 sub enclosure then i dont think that something like this would work for you.... as for acura roadside assistance... thank god i have never had to use it but if you get a flat just make sure you carry a can of fix a flat...

have shop custom make a box that fits into one corner of the car. since it is at a hard boundary, you should not have anything to worry about in terms of cancellation. if you need more bass, make another one on the other side.

I had a Honda CRV before we got the MDX. I built just a small box that fit in the spare tire well. It had a single 10" Kicker round Solo. Sounded great. JL also made a stealthbox for the CRV. I think the TL well is even larger so, I think you would have lots of options. Biggest concern would probably be depth. I have not really looked much at it.

OK, here's where I'm at right now. The dual IDQ 12s are going to have to go. They take up way too much space. I love their sound but my duaghter comes first.

The IDQs that I currently have are DVC 4ohm versions. As such, I cant use them with my current sub amp. I'm willing to trade the two 12" IDQ DVC 4 ohms for one IDQ DVC 2 ohm. I'm sticking with Image Dynamics. They're the best subs I've ever owned or heard. Their musicality cannot be compared to.

So, I'm looking to sell/trade my two 12" IDQs for ONE 12" IDQ12D4.V.2.

I'll build a new box for the single woofer and live with a single 12 rather than the two I've had for the last couple of years. At this point I have no choice. My duaghter is more important than my subwoofers.

No biggie. I'll hook up a single 12" IDQ that's hungry for 600W of power. I can make a new box that will house it that won't take up very much trunk space. Hell, the only reason the last ones did is because I built the box to outlast the car. Which it will.

Trust me, if you wish to purchase these two IDQs I currently have you'll want to take advantage of the work I've done to build the box for them.

If not, my heart will not be broken.

I've realized that I have to rebuild my system and will do so.

That has been my dilema as well. How much room do I want to take up in the trunk. My wife needs trunk space alot for work and I have got throw my golf clubs in there as well. Makes it kinda tough.

On another note Bozz, I must say, in this crazy, me oriented society, it is nice to see someone who stills puts family first. My wife and I have not ventured down the child rode yet but, we are getting closer. After almost 13 years, we think we are ready, yeah right. I just wanted to say how much I admire your attitude. It is a rare thing these days. Never loose it.

One of the same issues I am having right now. I have fairly big vented enclousure right now and I need the trunk space back. I went back to the audio place and told them I wanted to get 2 10's. all he said was that will be a waste of money. Hell i was abput to give the guy a $300 to $450 sale. I was going for 2 kicker COmp VR's or JL W3v2s. So me made a better solution. Make a new cutom box that will be long and no as in depth. So it sits pretty far back in the trunk and an internal volume of about 1.5 to 1.75 cu ft.

Why would 2 10's be a waste of money? My brother has two 10's in his car and it sounds great. I was even thinking of getting a set of the new IDQ 10's. They only require .5cf per woofer. Will I win any competitions? NO. Will it sound good to 99% of the people who hear them? YES.

Thanks AcuraX2. Actually, I'm one of the most selfish people I know but once you have a kid that all changes.

I was wondering about the 2 10's myself. I actually prefer the sound of 10's to 12's. They just seem to be a little more punch and less boom. I know the Kicker 10 L7 sounds more like a 12" than a 10". My Image 10" sub sounds awesome in the X. Only 150 watts and will just punch the daylights out of you. Crystal clean sound. I would highly recommend 2 10's.

he said 2 10's would be a waste due to: me not seeing a big difference in sound. I have asked couple of people about this now, hell even circuit city(the commision people) said the same thing. He said when I go with the COmp Vr 10s the sound quilty will be the same and i will gain the upper bass freq. and lose some lowers ones. With the L5 in a 1.5 cu box the woofer will play any freq. When over summer when I had 2 Type S tens and the Solo in my small sealed box it sounds the same.
