spacer for speaker

i ran into another problem when putting in my speakers. i have a pair of focal utopia components, which are quite deep, so i'm going to have to make a spacer ring for it so that the window can roll down without any problems. the thing about this is that if i put the spacer in, then the speaker will stick out too far and i don't think i will be able to put the door panel back on. any suggestions on how to get around this problem??

for those with a 2nd gen tl, how did you guys put in your aftermarket components??

you have plenty of room under the door panel... i have a 1 inch spacer with my boston pro components and they still fit pretty easily... so i dont think you are going to have a problem..

You won't have a problem with the door panel. Plenty of people have installed the same type of speakers w/spacers and didn't have a problem.

ok, looking at the stock speaker, i know it presses against the door panel, which is why i'm trippin that the aftermarket ones might rub it....but fuck it, i take your word. a-tl has helped me get a lot of shit done!! did you guys leave the speaker bare and put the panel on, or did you put the cover (that came with it) and then the panel??

Just install your speaker with your ring. There is no other cover besides the door panel. Are you talking about the white bracket the stock speaker sits in? Just take that out all together when you put on your new spacer ring.

i am talking about the door panel, there's this circular part which is padded with foam, and it pushes up against the stock speaker because i can see the indent in the foam part. i was just kinda worried that the new speakers might push against it too hard, ruining anything......

also, do you guys cover the back of the speaker, to ensure that the window has no effect on it, or do you just leave it bare??

Cut the door panel where the sticky foam is to prevent it hitting your rubber surrounds. (I also cut out as much as I could that was in front of the speaker, and covered what remained with silicone rubber).

I left my speaker bare, but I can't say that's the best thing...
