Sound deadening spray

What's everybody's opinion on sound deadening spray? I've used Dynamat spray before, but didn't really notice a difference. I was thinking about trying the Cascade version instead. Do sprays work or do I really need to use the sheets?

I just bought a 5 gallon bucket of cascade. Liquid products are able to stop vibration, reduce decibles from to 20db depending on the thickness, cost less, dont add extra weight or bulk and are superior to mats IMHO. The only drawback is that you cannot cover holes with it so you have to use a cheap matt then apply over it.

The bucket of Cascade is different than what comes out of the spray can.

I've heard good things about the damping paste, but I didn't get great results with the spray cans either. Now I just use the mat materials.

I ahve people really trying to get me to get a spray gun and spray that damping liquid that way... but I am resisting it cause it's messy and I like the mat application better.

Spray on takes a loooong time to dry, while with mat your can put the door together after it has been applied.

Like Elduderino already knows I like second Skin, I bought a ton and it is plenty to stop any vibration and cuts down into road noise, although I went to lowes and also picked up some peal and seal, i figured why not, the trunk tray is out and everything is empty....I should have the sound on lock

P.S. 2nd skin has several products although, the one i bought is a water based and not asphalt based like others, so it takes no time to dry, they also make a sludge which I have heard good feedback from

The sludge that secondskin makes cant be applied to plastic anyway. As far as the liquid stuff goes you can use a brush to apply it.

What's Peel and Seal and what's it doing at Lowes? If it's cheap I'll give it a shot! I'm actually looking into sound deadening stuff for the doors of my 96' Prelude VTEC. IMO, the sound insulation on my TL-S is more than adequate and the doors sound just fine. The doors on the Prelude sound a little tinny when close them and I was hoping some Dynamat-type stuff would alleviate it, but I find Dynamat to be quite expensive.

elduderino, have you heard about or tried this product ? Wanted an opinion from someone with knowledge on the subject. I know dampening sheets like Dynamat will add weight. Is there an advantage with one over the other?

Peel N Seal is pretty good stuff, it will be found in your windows section, and 1 roll is 12.97....I like it for your cheap alternative (also keep in mind though i used a lot of 2nd skin spray) but I have heard of a lot of people who only use that because they didn't have a lot to spend, I'm not sure if it's an asphalt based, i didn't smell much, i'll try to find out

I know the guys who sell the paste materials try hard to sell it to me... but if you use Cascade VB2 you are not adding much weight. Joerockt has some VB2 in the F doors of his car, ask him what he thinks, too.

I don't know if those materials are all the same or not... but they certainly could be...

I have felt that the liquid stuff is best for situations where the car is largely disassembled and you have a chance to shoot the wholething with a spray gun and a compressor. I don't do those kind of jobs much... so the mats are much more practical for us.

We've been doing a LOT of VMAX - kind of like Dynamat Extreme, but much easier to work with when installing, and better looking too. It's a thin flexible aluminum sheet, black on one side, with black butyl rubber on the other. It weighs a little more than regular dynamat. It works so well that I've been in trouble with too much VB2-HD in stock. I should create a sale... : )

I am putting Hush Mat on my car. I like it since it doesn't have that foil barrier that cuts your hands.

Well, I dropped by the local Lowe's looking for Peel N Seal and all I found were the 36' X 33.5" rolls. Are the smaller rolls somewhere else? I was looking in the roofing section.

FYI, peel n seal is tar based! I went to the lowes here and found one in the window section and another in the roffing section by the flashing. I saw something black & decided to take a wiff.....raw TAR!!

Has anybody had experience with Peel N Seal stinking up their cars? I took a whiff of it at Lowe's and it didn't seem to smell much at all.

well, you look at 90% of the sound damping products are tar based, although this does not have a smell unlike dyna and other brands although most companies are moving away from the tar based products....install it and i bet you wont smell a thing, you could even hang some up in your rear view mirror and you wont smell it

yeah, my roll is actually only about 8 in wide and a pretty good size in length for 12 bucks.....don't try the roofing section, i found mine in the windows section

as far as that smell, maybe it's different for roofs then the stuff used for windows, or maybe you stuck your hand in a big pile of crap, and you were smellin that, I don't know, i cant figure out what you were smelling

Well, after a lot of research and delving into the car audio forums, I've decided to give eDead a try. Getting 20% off was a nice little incentive! Thanks to everyone for your input. It was much appreciated.
