Sony Switch

What exactly is a sony switch, and is it better quality than a rf adapter?

In my search for mp3 hookups I found this sony switching relay, is this what you where refering to?

I am thinking of going this route to add rca inputs to the stock 02 TLs. Has anybody tried using this unit, or one similar?

Sony XA-39II

This will idealy switch between two sources when it detects 12V on the power-up lead. I don't know if that can be wired into the stock deck, will probably have to wire up a manual switch. This would give you much better sound quality than the tape-deck converter thingies or FM modulators.

I am really interested in anybody with any knowledge or past experience with such a goody.

Thanx in advance!

Did anyone ever figure out how this was supposed to work yet (the XA-39II)? I'm looking at using this to connect my mp3 player to the stock head unit. Where would the Sony switch mount? I haven't done much electrical wiring, so when you say you would need to create a manual switch, what exactly do you mean? Thanks for the help.

Using a manual switch just means that you need to buy and install a brand new switch somewhere on your dashboard or elsewhere to select the audio source you want to listen to.

I'm wondering if the sony switch would permit volume control of the secondary source through the stock stereo's volume control knob? In other words, does that vol. knob control the output of the bose amp or the output of the headunit?

I don't think it will allow for volume control, you would have to use the other devices volume control.

isn't this piece for use on aftermarket systems only?

i thought i read somewhere that you should/can use this with the factory bose system? from the looks of it, the outputs are of the rca variety and not speaker level (wire type).

You can splice rca cables onto the stock speaker wires to connect.

Picture this

To simplify the sony switch picture this. The switch goes between the headunit and the factory amp/speakers. The switch will switch between the headunit and ANY auxiliary source.

None of the controls from the headunit will work if you are using the auxillary source except the on/off (because of the remote power lead). Therefore, any auxillary input you use has to have a headphone output (ie volume control).

The sound quality is EXCELLENT and it beats the RF modulator hands down.

The sony switch is on the right. I have an audiocontrol PD2 on the left that gives signal to my sub.

On the left side of the sony switch are the 2 sets of inputs (headunit and auxillary). The right side goes to the factory amp and is spliced to the PD2 for the sub.

I have a toggle switch on the dash that switches the source from auxillary to headunit.

Any more questions?

Guys, I got a 99 Navigation screen, hardrive, and Navigation dash peice.I know I will have to re route my A/C panel somewhere. I dont think I want to install the Navi Hardrive because my car is 2000 non navigation and it will require much more skill than I have. All I want to do for now is install the moniter, sony switch, dash panel, relocate the A/C and playstation 2. I have the wires for the screen. I need some help on how I would attempt this install. Any advice would be greatfully appretiated. Thanx
