Sirius Satellite options.
Sirius Satellite options.
I need my NFL and it looks like Sirius Satellite will be the only one offering it. Anybody have any advice on a Sirius Satellite/TSX setup? I like BassMechanic's XM setup but can't find any Sirius Satellite tuners that would fit/match as well. Thanks for any input.
i went with XM for the simple fact i couldnt find a single unit with any other manufacturer that would fit in that location. doesnt XM have some sports channels?
XM is now commercial free and costs less than sirius

Yeah, XM has sports channels, they just don't have the NFL package where you can get every game. I'm looking at these two units:
http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/s...2572&langId=-1
http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/s...3495&langId=-1
It looks like the bottom one would be able to fit in your installation. The top one sounds like it has more options. I wonder if you could fit the car dock that comes with the top one in the compartment above where you have yours mounted? That way you could hard wire the dock in in terms of power and aux/direct-in and still be able to pull the unit out and use it in the home dock setup.

I'd take the base off of the dock and just mount the part that actually holds the Sirius unit. I'd give up some storage but I'd have some flexibility in terms of using it in the car or home plus I'd probably be able to keep my other power plug in the lower compartment. I'd want that dock part to be flush/custom looking like your setup. Also, it would be easier to reach by being up a little higher. Just some thoughts. Who knows if it would work?
Edit:
Also, I'd like to squeeze another set of aux in jacks to the side or bottom of the dock so that I could easily hook my iPod in when needed. I could just close the door on the whole thing to hide things still. I think it would work, I'd just need to find an installer who could fabricate something to make the dock look flush or close to stock and to fill in the surrounding gaps around it. Similar to what you did with the XM Commander.

I have the Sirius Kenwood unit in the upper compartment. I gave up some storage space, but I like having the unit mounted higher. Circuit City did a nice job of velcro-mounting the unit so I can remove it easily (not that I ever do!).

unit into the lower storage bin, but it would take some fiberglass work because as far as i can see the unit is designed to be velcrow attached to somthing. it is 5.25" wide and the bin is 5.5" wide. i would have to build a fiberglass cradel into the compartment and lay velcrow in the bottom to hold it in place.
your talking a very tricky install though. not sure how much you would want to spend to get it in there and the fact that the unit is only fm modulated. i charge 35 an hour and your looking at probly about 5-6 hours of fibnerglass, sanding and painting to make it happen.
as for the other unit i honestly dont know where you would put that thing. i think you would be better off going with the kenwood unit if there is enough depth under the console i could easily graft that into the compartment so only the face of it is visable. i just dont know what the depth is under it.
this unit i could make a face plate for and mount it in the same was as the commander. as long as the rear of it doesnt hang too far below the console and hit anything under it.

How big is the upper compartment? From the dimensions, the SIRPNP2 looks like it may fit at least depth and width wise. All I need is 5-3/8"W x 3-5/8"H x 2-1/8"D to fit the cradel in there. After reading more I'd definitely want to go with the SIRPNP2 over the other two units.

Dang, I didn't realize that top compartment wasn't tall enough. I thought I only needed another 1.75" and that would be to fit the cradle/dock in. If I skip the cradle/dock and mount it permenantly, there's only about 1.5" extra that I'll need. That top compartment isn't at least 2" taller than the bottom compartment?
I'm skipping satellite and the expense of mounting something stock flush if I can't get a decent Sirius unit that will work. Oh well, I may have just saved me $300ish until a Sirius unit comes out that I like that will work. That Audiovox home dock/car dock and receiver deal for $129 after rebate is tempting. I'm not done trying to figure this out. Thanks for the input.

personally i wouldnt buy anything with the name of Audiovox on it, and i think that kenwood unit is possible to flush mount the front part of it. if you can pull your pocket out and see how much room is under it and if i adjust the angle enough it may fit in the not an ashtray location. also i think with the kenwood unit there may be enough room for me to mount an additional set of RCA jacks on one side. you can get the RCa switch from soundgate and use the RCA's for another peice of audio equipment if you want to.
Why not just mount it via a bolt on to the side of the center stack?

I've always equated Kenwood with low-mid fi so it's a toss up between Audiovox and them in that department (Terk as well). I just think the Kenwood unit is fugly and it doesn't have as many features as well. I'll get it to work somehow (unless something better comes out in the meantime). I'll talk to a couple of local installers to see what they can offer.
From the looks of these pics it looks like I can shave about 1.5"-2" off of the top and bottom of that compartment (the Kenwood unit is 1.75" high).

I need about 1.50" more than the Kenwood unit for the Audiovox unit itself and about 1.75" more to fit the cradle in there. I'd just cut that bottom lip off of the compartment and then fabricate some side pieces to fill in the small leftover gaps. The door should still close as well. Looks like I'll have to skip my extra pair of aux jacks in there though because it would be a tight squeeze. I could still run those through the bottom compartment via a RCA Y splitter from the snhonda3. I'd never be using my iPod and Sirius together so that wouldn't create any issues. Also, I could care less about losing the top compartment storage space, there's plenty of other places to store CD's and stuff in the TSX. I usually burn my own so the 6 that I'll have loaded would be sufficient most of the time anyways. That would leave me a power outlet, aux in jacks and a spot to store something small (like my Jabra Bluetooth earpiece) in the 'not an ashtray' compartment.

I have the KCA-FM70 (Kenwood). It fits into the "upper pocket" with some small modifications to the plastic plate that is used for DIN mounting (it is included with the FM 70). I have that connected to a Soundgate as well as a Kenwood music Keg.
How did you remove the Middle Compartment, I can find the screws?
Also the Cig Adapter to the Kenwood H2A where is it plugged into?
I don't think my adapter reaches from the Arm rest to the Back or the middle compartment.
The install looks very neat and professional.

I just bought this unit. It seems that the only cool place to mount it is the sunglass holder. The main unit is going under the pass seat and the display in the sunglass holder. BTW, the antenna seems to work just fine sitting on the parcel shelf inside the car! This unit from e-bay comes with a ton of extra stuff and is a smokin' deal for 85.00 bucks(imho). All you need is a smhon3 or use the rf adapter it comes with.
