Single Sub Solution Revisited

Well, looks like my ID12's are officially gone so, I need to shop for a new sub. I am going with a single sub, either 10" or 12". Will be powered with JL 500/1. $300 would be max to spend. Just want good strong clean bass.

Elemental Designs 12A or if you can handle a larger box and don't intend to ever port, the 12O is a bit cheaper and goes just as low.

Also take a look at Resonant Engineering.

Shawhite...Do you think the 12W6 is worth the $300. I mean, is it twice as good as say a Kicker 12L7. They run about $170 new off ebay and the 12W6 at least $275.

dnd...those are my top pics, although the W7 is out of my price range.

Brewboy...I am not familar with either of those. I will have to do some research on them.

What I really want is the 10" Adire Brahma. Mobile Entertainment tested it and said it was awesome. And it goes in a .5 cubic ft. box. I really want something that will go in a smaller box. That is the main reason I switched from the ID12's. Two 12's just take too much room.

the ed (element design) subs have been getting some good reviews by alot of the people over on elitecaraudio... but i am not familar with them either so i tend to shy away since i am unable to test them... i think the 12w6v2 is very clean and clear and it hits pretty hard to but it is hard to say if it is worth an extra $110... you might also want to look into the eclipse titanium or aluminum... as for the idmax and the w7 i think that you would be under powering them with the jl 500/1... like dnd said the diamond m6 is pretty nice... so many choices... personally if i had it all to do over my whole system would be diamond audio... jl is ok but diamond is unmatched in my opinion... as a matter of fact if anyone is interested i am willing to sell everything and start over...

My main choices right now are the Diamond M6, JLW2 and even the Kicker 12L7. I know what the Kickers sound like and they are less than $200. I would love the Diamond but, they seem to be hard to find. Every one on ebay has something wrong with it. IDMAX I have not ruled out either but, I am debating whether to spend $250+ or less than $200 on a sub.

I have no negative about the Kicker L7, THat is one awesome subwoofer. Yes alot of people are biased about a square sub. L7 can still give you nice clean and clear bass if u put it in a 1.25 cu to 1.5 cu ft box. I was gonna say L7 in the choices I said before but people dont consider the L7 in that catorgory.

Ok, here are my top picks and I am having a really difficult time deciding so, tell me what you think:

Kicker S12L7 - $190 shipped brand new
Diamond M6 12"- $229 shipped brand new
JL 12W6V2 - $250 shipped 3 weeks old

I have one more lead on Diamond that I am waiting to hear back on. With the JL, it is the same thing, is it really worth $60 more for a used sub over a brand new Kicker? Is the Diamond worth $40 more than a Kicker. Just want your opinions. Thanks all.

I have heard all 3 subs and this is what I can tell you

THe W6 and Diamond are pretty clear but the W6 gets alot louder.
The L7 is got loud and stayed clear but not as clear as the other 2. If I were in your shoes its a toss up bewteen the L7 and W6. I like Diamond Audio but just not a huge fan of them.

AcuraX2,
Still doing research? You should pick up the Oct issue of ME. Tom gives a review of the ED 12A.

"0.68cF - frequency response linear to 9Hz - 129.4dB

Small box - loud - low - and sounds good

"flat is where it's at"
"My listening sessions were great"
"no BS"
- Tom Nousaine"

I kinda went opposite of what I said. I bought a like new 12" IDMAX. I was kinda worried about 500 watts but someone from the ID forum on sounddomain, one of the guys from ID, said the IDMAX would be great with 500 watts. So, I am waiting on it to arrive. Thanks everyone for their suggestions.

THe JL 500/1 will dish out close to 650 watts so that IDmax will move.
