single 10" sub positioning and firing?

i'd only driven hatchbacks before the tsx, so i don't really know how trunk boxes work. i'm going to have a single 10" type-s, and i'm removing the 6x9s. where's the best place for the box, and in what direction should it be aimed?

Is this a ported box? I'm not an expert or anything, but I have 10" sub in a ported box and I just have it pointing towards the rear. I can't tell you if that's the optimal setup, but it sounds good to me. I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on this too.

Yes, pointed to the rear is usually the best. If it's a box you can move around, move it around every few days and see where you like it.

For positions, I would recomend trying:
~ under rear deck, centered, facing towards the rear bumper.
~ one of the rear corners, facing towards the other rear corner.

Those will typically give you your best result in a trunk. But if you have the time, and the extra wire, try both of those positions firing in all different directions. Just make sure to be consistant when you are testing, play the same tracks at the same volumes, under the same conditions. Good Luck and Have Fun

Free air is a bad option in our cars. It would take quite abit of work to truely seal off the trunk from the rest of the car. If you don't seal it off, you will end up with dismal results. I'm not saying it can't be done, IASCA world champion Scott Buwalda is doing it in his Altima, but a box would just be simpler.

EDIT: I'm not sure where you are located, but if you're in the surrounding area, I'd be happy to help you install a setup.

i talked to scott about it already.

only reason im considering doing it is b/c i want to save some trunk space, and like the sleathy look it would give.

Electro....just curious and i dont understand why you think its a bad idea, please explain. why would sealing of the trunk from the rest of the car matter?

tuan: free air (or infinite baffle) drivers operate on the principal that the air space in front of the driver is completely seperate from the airspace behind the driver. otherwise, interference will occur. i was thinking about mounting 8s on the rear deck, but it sounds like it'll be too much hassle to seal the trunk/deck and at best i won't get good transient response.

ya...did some research. im try it to see how it sounds. =D maybe the rear seats are good enough? if not i may build a wall or something. never went free air before, so ill give it a go. should be more balance but lose alil output.
