A simple Audio Question.........I need a little help!!!!!
Today I bought a JL Audio 10W7 and a 500/1 amp(should be installed on Tuesday). My question is, who has a sub and an amp with the stock Bose stuff. I need to know how the installer ran every thing, what converter they used, and if I should expect any noise....(popping or the dreaded alternator whine) I can't afford to do the mid and highs with another amp.....aleast for another couple of weeks.
I know this should be in the A/V section........but I know I'll get more input here.....SORRY

if you went out and spent some decent money on a 10W7 and 500/1 then you're gonna want to get rid of that Bose headunit. i had a converter hooked up to the bose and it sounds like shit compared to an aftermarket radio. sure when you hook it up and have nothing else to compare it to, the bose will sound good to you. but you'll have no idea how much better it will sound with an aftermarket. for one the bose radio distorts when you turn it up and it limits the bass output as your turn it up louder to prevent damaging the stock speakers from too much bass. you'll end up with a system that distorts at high volume with very low bass output. so my advice, get a new radio. if you cant afford it, save up and get one later. its of no use to spend money on a W7 and 500/1 to run it off the stock Bose.

I plan on getting a 300/4 and JL 6.5s and 6x9s........I hust can't do it all at once. Atleast I will be able to turn the bass down on the bose speakers so I can turn them up louder. You can never have too much........I can always turn down the gain on the amp

Retired. Not available.
You shouldn't experience alternator whining until you put in the 300/4 and JL 6.5 and/or 6x9. The high pitch whining noise is filtered out before it gets to the sub because of the low-pass filter in the 500/1. But then, you may not experience any noise at all. It's just your luck

Silver........You have a 500/1, do you like it???? Do you think I will have any light dimming???? One last question Do you think that a 10W7 (in a sealed box off of the 500/1) wil way over power the Bose???? If I turn down the bass on the bose a little, it should sound pretty good......right
