Exclamation Signal Booster for Compustar Alarm

Is it just me or does the range come nowhere near 1.5 miles on our Compustar SS alarms????? I live in the tri state area and even in long island or new jersey if I go further than two blocks and go around a corner the pager doesn't connect to the car. Is there something I'm missing or better yet any dignal booster out there that could integrate into the alarm to increase the range to what the manufacturer says it is????? If so, please advise what to buy and how to integrate it into the system.
Thanks!

The quoted 1.5 mi range is under ideal conditions....say a wide open field in the middle of Nebraska.

where's your antenna mounted? and do you live by tall buildings? My Compustar will work for up to a half mile away because i've tried it. But if your car is parked by tall apartment buildings, you range will be severely limited due to the metal structures blocking the signal.

Well, you have your antenna mounted in the same location as mine. The only other thing i can say is that i ordered my Compustar from someone up in Canada where US FCC rules dont apply. I was told the range in the US is limited by the FCC and so the Canadian version, which otherwise looks physically identical, has more range.

I think i read there is an antenna booster for the alarm, but i never looked into it because my range was plenty.

The above-referenced statements are Bull$hit. I contacted Compustar directly and they told me that there is no such thing as a Canadian Spread Spectrum and that all of their antennas comply with the FCC. Additionally, they advised me that there is no signal booster currently available for their system. He did however tell me that I can get a leather case for my remote

Whatever suit yourself. I get a maximum range of about 7/10ths of a mile with mine. Same location for the antenna in my car as yours. My module does not have an FCC regulation compliance stiker on it.
And as far as I know, they most certainly did have an active antenna range extender. Maybe they've discontinued it, but I most definitely read about it, and it was somewhere about $50 at the time (this would have been in 2002) which is why i didnt bother getting it.

BTW, this may seem like an overly simplified thought, but have you checked the battery in your remote? Range suffers once it gets below 2 bars on the battery indicator.

If you go to a shop that does CB radios for clubs they might be able to build you a booster.....but this will only be good as far as sending and alert you to at a greater distance.... the weakness is the handheld transmitter ... the transmitter is probably only good for maybe a 1/4 watt maybe 1/2 a watt tops.Cell Phones are only .5 watts aka a 1/2 watt ...... Now if you set up a bunch of repeaters like they do then you can extend your range. By the way yaron have you tried to add a better antenna to the existing alarm system....in Theroy the higher the mast the better the signal transmission.

Can they wire the antenna to the radio antenna on the rear windshield? This would be a huge receiving and transmitting antenna.

This is what an authorized compustar dealer told me. I'm just quoting him.

He said that if you have keys attached to the remote, it would affect the range of the system. He too told me to get a leather case for the remote. Keep the remote separate from the keys.

I didn't try it yet, so I wouldn't know if would help. I'm in Brooklyn and I can go a couple of blocks and it still works.
