Short in Stereo Volume Adjustment?

Lately, I've noticed that sometimes when I turn the volume knob down, the volume actually goes up. It feels like there might be a short in the adjustment based on the wqay it reacts to being turned. This does not happen when I use the steering wheel volumn adjustment.

Anyone else seen this?
