Question Setting up a SUBWOOFER

I just purchased a 1996 Acura 2.5 TL. I want to install a 10in sub w/ an amp i already have. i like the deck thats in there so i wanted to just leave that in and not install a new deck. only problem is on pg. 98 of the owners manual it says "Your cars audio system will disable itself if it is disconnected from electrail power for any reason. To make it work again, the user must enter a specific five digit code in the Preset Buttons." so i basically have 2 questions
1. Am i able to hook up a sub to the stocked deck?
2. I may have to disconnect the deck, where can i get a five digit code to make it work again?

thank you for your help!

You have to take your car to a dealer.
Take along your drivers license and your registration.
They will look it up on there computer.
There may be a fee. But it is so fast they may not even bother.

And no.
You can't hook up a sub to the stock. It only has the power for the main speakers. How to connect a amp to the stock I can't help you.
You will have to do a search and find it yourself if it is out there.

hey NickP10, welcome to the board! to answer your questions:

1. YES! you can install an aftermarket sub.
2. the usual places to find your radio code are:
*on a card in your owners manual binder
*stickers on various locations in the car (such as: under the
armrest, under the lids to the fuseboxes in the engine
compartment, under the ashtray, etc).

now in my 2002 there was NO sticker *anywhere*, so i resorted to calling the dealership and faxing them proof of ownership and they looked it up for me. if you do a search you will find a bunch of threads listing all sorts of places the sticker may be. i am assuming your year does not have a stock sub, so what you will need to do is just tap a speaker input from a rear speaker and then use a line out converter to run the rca's to your sub amp, and then youll just have to run a power and a remote. not hard to do. you may find more on your year tl with the search, let us know how it works out!

So what your saying is i dont have to take out the deck and just run it from the back?? also there might be a stocked sub because it hits pretty good w/ just factory speakers.

sorry i didnt reply sooner, i keep forgetting to check this part of the forum. you do not need to remove the stock deck to install a sub. i know the 2002-2003's have the bose sub in the rear deck, i am unsure about your year. but either way you can take a speaker signal from the rear and put it into an amp. now just make sure its a good amp with a crossover so you can isolate the bass signals. ill post more details on this for you if you need them. i have wiring diagrams or my tl but im not sure if they apply to your year. they might though, i will check.
