Running wires to large center console bin

Hey all,

I need to run some wires to the center console bin located above the "not an ash tray" bin. I noticed that there is a cap on the roof of that bin that pops out to be able to pass wires through. However, I can't figure out how to get that cap out. Any ideas?

Also, is that hole somehow accessible without removing the head unit? Could wires be pulled up there from the area beside the pedals if I were to push something down there to fish the wires up?

just pull the bin out, it pops out easily, open the not-an-ashtray bin to give yourself room to grab (with your thumb and pointer finger) it at the bottom and use your other fingers to push against the side walls and pull at the same time. Hope you get what i'm saying.

just don't pull on the the tray door

Like Gibson said, apply pressure to the side walls from the inside. When you pop it out, the little light goes down and into the console, not out. So don't try to pull on the light itself, push.

Hey guys,

I applied pressure to the left and right sidewall from the inside while pulling it back and it's not coming out. Any thoughts?

Also, That little light came loose when I pried a small screwdriver underneath the cap and now it's no longer sitting in the hole. It's loose and causing a loud vibration noise. How can I get that thing back in there? I tried pulling it through with my fingers and it wont work since the bin is so tight.

Did you open the not an ashtray bin to give you something to grab on to at the bottom?

So pull on the bin at the bottom with the "not an ash tray" door open while applying pressure to the sidewalls? Is there a specific area of the sidewall or does it not matter?

doesn't matter, should pop out fairly easily that way, just make sure you don't use the doors to pull

Don't apply too much pressure, just enough to be able to pull the bin out

by applying pressure, Gibson means for you to basically put your 4 fingers of both hands on the inside walls of the compartment, with your thumbs on the outside, grip it and just pull it out. Should be that easy! No screwdrivers needed.

Good luck!

Got it! Thanks guys. I was able to clip the light back in and now the vibration is gone when I drive the car.
