My boyfriend thought about doing the same in mine. Our friend owns a car stereo shop and when the bf talked to him, he didn't think it was a good idea, thought it would vibrate the package tray too much and sounds like crap.

yeah i've talked to a few audio shops, and they dont' recommend just swapping a sub in its spot.. they suggest getting one of those thin boxes for a sub in your trunk, or getting a custom made sub for one of the side cubbies in the trunk.. they say the stock sub tray won't hold anymore weight in a stable condition. BUT you cant wire a new sub right into your current interface if you ahve the tech package. Overall the stereo I was lookin at was about $2900 installed, but thats including a custom box hidden in my trunk so I could spare most my space.

IIRC, one of the main reasons that you can't drop in an aftermarket sub in the factory location is because the factory sub is set up in an Infinite Baffle setup, and a lot of aftermarket subs do not have the suspension to control the cone movement in an IB environment. Also, you're going to have to add an external amplifier since the factory amp is designed to only power the factory sub, and will not work well with any aftermarket subwoofer.

Tishkevich, $2900 is insane. I really hope you don't pay that much for an install, unless it's something super custom, and going to win all kinds of shows and awards...
