Replacing Stock Sub?

I want to replace the stock sub so I went to mobile one and they told me that if I just replace the factory sub then I will either blow the amp or the new sub because of the ohms. They said Imust get a new amp and should go with 2 subs in a box. Is this true? I do not know much about audio systems. I just wanted to add the sub because it sounds like the cheapest way to improve system.

Unfortunately, you will probably need to replace the sub and the amp. You cound possibly keep the existing amp, but I'm not certain how much power it puts out or what it would sound like. I doubt it would blow the new sub, but I don't know if would work out either.

Not sure if you need two subs in a box or just one. I have on 12" and I'm happy with it--but I'm no basshead.
