Replacing Speakers TSX 1st Gen
Replacing Speakers TSX 1st Gen
I am looking at replacing the speakers in my 2005 TSX. I am wanting to keep the stock amplifier for now. What Brand/Model seems to give the biggest improvements off the factory amp? Or is there not much improvement? I have two tens in the truck right now and my goal is to improve the high's as they are not very impressive in my opinion. Does anybody have a trick for replacing the tweeters without getting rid/cutting off the 2p connector. Also, If anyone has used any sound deadener like Dynamat , Second Skin, Raammat I would be curious as to witch one works best.
Thanks for any input.

For the tweeters, you can solder a pin header with a .100" spacing:

You might be surprised how good the stock speakers can sound with a better amp. The problem with replacing speakers only is some replacements will be a higher sound quality but less efficient then what you're taking out. You will have to turn the volume setting higher to get the sound at the same level. The amp does not sound that great when pushed to or near its limit.
You can replace your front door speakers and tweeters with a component set, and power each pair off one full range channel each if you change the amp.
For a short time, I had a component set powered off my stock amp. The stock amp has internal crossovers and send the highs to the tweeters and the mids/lows to the door speakers on separate channels. It was not possible to use the crossovers that came with the components. They really did not sound that great. Once I added the amp and used the crossovers that came with the components, there was a huge improvement!
I recommend an amp first, and get crossovers from parts express to separate the highs and lows in the front. If you know you're going to do everything eventually, save up for components and an amp, then do everything at once!

I got Alpine SPS-600C for the front and SPS-600 for the rear. Seems like a BUNCH of people on the TSX forums use the Alpine Type-S setup with their stock amps. Since you have a sub, you should unplug the stock 6x9. To avoid cutting off the stock harness, you can use t-taps to get into the existing cable without cutting it off.
