If you don't want to splice the wire, then yes. You will need Metra # DW7800SH .

Why are you upgrading the 6x9s if you already have subwoofers?

The reason I asked is that the 6x9s act like subwoofers already. If you have seperate subwoofers already installed then I don't think you'll notice any improvement from the 6x9 replacement. The next step would be the 6.5 door speaker replacement. (as you already said)

No. I've been lurking for what seems like forever, reading all the speaker replacement posts. I've settled on the Alpine Type S but can't quite justify the expense to my wife. My first step will be the rear deck 6x9s. They seem like an easy swap (no tearing apart of door panels) and we'll see how well they improve the low end. If we/she can really hear an improvement then it'll make it that much easier to justify the door speakers. I'm planning on sticking with the stock amp, stock tweeters in the dash, and no subs in the trunk.

i put in the type s 6x9s before i got my sub and it was a great improvement. now my sub takes the 'sub' frequency the 6x9s got, and im gonna wire my 6x9s as full range speakers - well, i wont do it, my friend will who is a car audio guy. and now i just have type r doors sitting waiting for me to decide whether or not i wanna cut the doors to make them fit. maybe this weekend ill finally finish my setup...
