Replacing 3.2 CL Speakers
Replacing 3.2 CL Speakers
I’m interested in upgrading the speakers in my 3.2 CL (2001 Model). I want to start by replacing the set of rear speakers to see if this will improve the sound quality and if no, then I will replace the two sets of speakers in the doors. I do no want to go through he trouble of replacing the head unit or amp.
There are three sets of speakers a friend suggested I listen to (all are 6”x 9” three-way speakers): 1.) Infinity Kappa 693.1i 2.) Rockford Fosgate HPC1 & 3.) Polk dX9.
I would like to get your thoughts on replacing the rear speakers with 3-way speakers and on the 3 pairs of speakers above.

if you replace your speakers in the back with after market, they will be four ohm, and the factory are two ohm, which means your amp will put out half the power, therefore, you have decreased your sound quality, further, if you are after better sound quality, you should replace front speakers in general, because they are infinitely more important than the rear speakers., There is a slight possibility you may be able to get your hands on some soundtream front components, they used to make aftermarket 2 ohm speakers.

I agree, the 6 x 9's are more for rear fill. If you replace your front or rear speakers, you will most likely need an amplifier to get the sound you want. The aftermarket speakers usually require more power.
I tried to only replace the rear speakers in my last car, and the speakers started clipping because the head unit wouldn't supply enough power. So then I added an amp, and soon I couldn't hear my front speakers over the rears. To make a long story no-so-long, I ended up replacing everything and adding a sub.
What do you want quality-wise out of the system? I think the mids and high sound fine, but the system just doesn't have enough bass. Also it doesn't do very well at high volume. If it's a more full-bodied sound, or just more boom you want, I'd add a sub. If you really want all-around high quality, powerful sound, I'd replace everything. You might be able to get away without adding a subwoofer.
Also, if you decide to change the 6 x 9's, pay attention to the magnet size. Honda didn't leave us much room for a bigger speaker, which is why I went with Alpine SPS 6939S. They drop in perfectly.
Good luck, I hope this helps.
