Replacement for AVC-RGB1 on the way
cool, steve i've been trying to find a AVC-RGB1 for the longest time now and its hard, so when you find something lets us know and thatnks for all the time and effort you put in to help us Navi owner to love our car even more.
speaking of avc-rgb1, i got mines a while ago online but haven't installed it. should i sell this or wait for the new replacement? or does someone in so cal wants to get paid to install this for me?

I've since gone back to to the drawing board and located another product with built-in TV tuner and wireless remote controller that will work as well (or even better because it has TV tuner!). The new design also won't require an extra LCD monitor like the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV design.
Stay tuned as I'll be done testing in a couple weeks.

. This is great news to hear. I was looking forward to pulling out the soldering iron to modify the AVC-RGB1 but I couldn't even get one to hold. Am I glad you have went back to the drawing board. Much thanks for your time and effort you put into these Video to Nav conversion's Steve.

Here is a follow-up requested.
The new RGB decoder with TV tuner will work in place of the Pioneer AVC-RGB1. It sill requires soldering wires to the inside the unit now, but I'm in the process of locating plugs so I can build a simple wire harness to sell. Then it will be a simple plug and play modification.

hey steve..
quick question... im not too familiar with working on car electronics myself, so how hard is it to install the new system in comparison to the old system? and how much would the new system cost all in all..??

How's the work coming alone steve?
yeah, i was looking into modding the gex-p7000tv because of its built-in rgb decoding capabilities. where did you get the service manual for that? (i figured you'd have to get one...)

So thats the one huh?? Dayum, 400 bucks. Thats like 3 times the price of the avc-rgb1 alone. Well if someone gets some true and tested procedures on how to mod the damn thing, im sure that they will be out of stock from all the freaks like us adding them to the factory NAV systems!!!

I have a 2001 TL w/navi. I did my conversion about 6 months ago with Steve's instructons and help. I did not use the pioneer RGb1. I did mine using the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV. The GEX unit does the switching with a remote control between the TV tuner, NAVI computer, DVD player-PLaystation. I used a pioneer AVD-505 for the rear display which enabled the seup display info to show for channel, mode etc. This system works great. My wife really likes the keychain remote.
The equipment used:
Pioneer AVD-505 LCD Display (rear)
Pioneer GEX-P7000TV
Pioneer LC10 portable DVD Player
Playstation 2
Pioneer AN-G3 Antennas for GEX-P7000TV
THis system is awesome - Thanks to Steve

What was the cost of your system?

Sorry for not being around. Since I don't own a Acura (only a Honda and Lexus) it's easy to forget to check this message board.
If it's more info you need, it's more info you will get. Yes, it's true that I have been doing modifications for a select few people using the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV instead of the AVC-RGB1, but as pointed out the GEX needs to also have a Pioneer display connected to get on screen text display to appear on the navi screen. The on screen text is needed to setup the GEX RF mod and inputs for basic usage (channel numbers, video input labels). For this reason I've abandon the idea of making a plug and play cable harness for the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV.
As for the new unit, it's built around the Alpine TV tuner TUE-011A. I came across this when making my Alpine navigaiton system talk to my Pioneer multimedia master unit. The Alpine TV tuner does not require a second display to be connected for channel numbers. The down side is this unit does not have a built-in RF modulator and is expensive (ebay has them cheaper from time to time). The wire harness I'm working on putting together will have direct plugs for both the Alpine TUE and Honda/Acura navigation computer.
How is that for information? I'm still a good ways off on getting the Alpine plugs, but I'm headed in that direction.
