Replace front Speakers

Guys, Id' like to replace my front speakers.. I think they're 6.5"s ... What speakers do you recommend w/o getting a new amp and completely redoing my system? Thansk

You will have to get a new amp to power them.

The stock system runs at an abnormally low impedance, and if you hook up an aftermarket 6.5 (4 ohm) it will play too quiet.

I've tried it and ended up having to get an amp, much to my chagrin.

Polk DX6

As the POS Blose 6.5" in our doors have a 2ohm impedance, it is true that replacing them with a 4ohm speaker will not sound as loud, assuming the same speaker sensitivity. But I found, upon the recommendation of Southbound at Acura-TL.com, that the Polk DX6, available most of the time on eBay, and with a 91dB sensitivity (about as high as a 6.5" gets), really make a huge improvement by themselves. But with the Blose EQ built in to our system, you will have to turn down the treble about 3 notches. And they are a perfect fit which anyone with a screwdriver and wire cutters should be able to replace themselves. They are not quite as loud, but they are so worth it. There are endless discussions about them over at Acura-TL.com. Check it out. I like mine a lot, and you can get them for cheap, too, so try them before you go crazy with amps and stuff.

The systems on the TL and CL are different. TLs have no tweeters but they have a sub and an hidden stock EQ which CLs dont have.

True

It is my educated guess that there is some EQ in the CL also, just not as severe as in the tweeter-less TL. (That's what Blose does: EQ a 99 cent POS speaker to yield a better response.)
I have a 2001 CL-S, which is what I'm basing my experience on. I think the Polk DX6s are a great starting point: a huge improvement for little money or work... You just have to be brave and careful with the door panels, so you don't scratch the sail panels behind the mirror.
