Remote Starter: Brands, Specs, Recommendations.

Hi there. I'm looking to purchase a remote start kit. I have one in mine, looking to buy for my gf's car. There are countless guides and articles about them but they all seem to favor different brands. I was hoping see what is popular amongst AZ'ers.

Some of the things I am undecided with:

- Brands: Which ones are good, okay, and which to stay away from, which are popular. Good support and warranty is a big plus.

- Features/Specs: which are must-haves (if there are any), which are gimmicks. Wanted features: above avg range, extra features for convenience,

- Budget: No target budget, but I want to stay away from very cheap ones. At least a highly regarded bang-4-the-buck model up to something feature packed but still good value for the $.
(ie saw some models that are compatible with smartphones. A big plus)

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'd go with either Audiovox Prestige (the brand I install at my shop) or DEI Viper. Both are great units but we use the prestige because their remotes seem to last longer and that's the only thing not covered in the lifetime warranty. As far as features go you can get just remote start, with keyless entry or with security. There's also one way or two-way, two-way talks back to you informing you of what's going on in the car on the remote. The biggest feature for the remote start its self is make sure it's hooked up to tachometer not voltage, we usually get tach from one of the fuel injector wires and this allows the remote start to sense rpm vs voltage for a more accurate start especially when the car gets older and it takes a longer crank.

i've never had any issues with DEI... i have two, and also surprisingly enough a 11 year old crimestopper unit that still *knocks on wood* works like a dream still...

both Dei and audiovox units are great and they have models you can utilize the factory remote. I would recommend the Audiovox because cost, ease of use, features, and warranty. I sell and install both as I am an authorized retailer and installer for both companies. I would recommend you go to an authorized retailer and purchase and install it there to save yourself any headaches. Also with the correct bypass unit you can not only use the factory remotes but you can use the long range remotes that come with the units. Good luck and I hope I helped you with my info.
