remote start w/ factory immobilizer

All, is there any way to get a remote start system that still has the factory immobilizer/authentikey system in place?

All of them do. There's no way around it. To make it work though, you need to have a key in the car somewhere up in the dash hidden. This key is in a little box that has a control cable to the alarm brain. A really good one I had over a year was from Viper. It was the 550ESP. It was on my 300M.

That is the old way. They have a bypass box that they put in now. It will start the car but you still need the key with the chip in the ignition to drive otherwise the engine will shut down adter remote starting.

so essentially the remote start would start my car but I would not be able to drive the car off until I put the kep into the ignition?

Really? I heard of that but only with some GM cars that works. Does that work on the CL-S too?

Bypass the immobilizer. Works with the starter/alarm. The bypass is controled by the alarm/starter. The bypass will not work if the alarm is tripped. Any mobile electronics dealer will stock the bypass.

Buy an un-cut key programmed from and Acura dealer. Some people use the gray valet key.

I was told by an installer (Tweeter) the keyless bypass is not reliable. Works for a week or two, then needs to be re-programmed.

I looking into the Avital 3300.

DEI part # 555U (I'd probably sell them for around $35 - $40)

That's all you need plus a spare key (preferably UNCUT)

Just did a 99 TL the other night, customer brought an UNCUT key.

The key gets inserted into the 555U box. There is a transponder antenna that wraps around the key cylinder and plugs into the 555U. When, and ONLY when you remote start the car, the 555U sends the code from the key to the key cylinder and starts the car.

SE,
How long should an alarm/remote starter install take? I was told 5 hours. Seems kind of long.
How much would you charge for the 555U install?

Thanks,
Bluto

We do them in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. This is with two of us working on it, and we make everything nice and neat and STEALTH, but this should still be the about the average time.

DEI also make Avital? How does the 550 compare with the AviStart 3300? Any recommendations?
Thanks again.

Well, we do avital also, but I gotta tell ya', the electronics, even though manufactured by the same company, suck for some reason. I like Viper personally.

So that other modual that doesn't need the key will, or will not work? The Vipers still needs a key to be in the car somewhere.

yes, it will work, and it will work with the viper too. I just personally like the key option better. Also, they dont make the part (without a key) for all cars...honda/acura just happens to be one of them
