remote start

hi all i just got a DEI remote starter installed in my car today. They used my factory remote. To start the car i have to push the unlock button 3 times. Only problem is when i push the button once it unlocks my drivers door, push it twice it unlocks the rest of the doors, push it a third time and it starts the car. My question is is there anyway that I can rewire or add a device that will keep my doors from unlocking after i use the remote to start the car. It worries me now cause when the cars running i gotta be in eyesight of it cause the doors are open maybe this isn't normal and they forgot to wire something up. Any help would be appreciated thanks

There should be an option on the alarm to lock the doors after the remote start is activated.

no once the car is started all the buttons on the remote don't work the installer said it was that way from acura. So if you had a stock TL keyless entry system once u start the car you can't use the keypad anymore i.e. locking the doors or opening the trunk. thanks for the replies anyone else got any suggestions? by the way the remote starter is the DEI 551T and the bypass is DEI 555U if this helps anyone that knows anything about it thanks

My first question is why you chose to go the 551t route with your TL. I've done about 3-4 of the 551t's and although it is a neat feature to be able to use your factory remote.....the range (almost always) of the factory remote is no where near that of a remote start using its own remote. Secondly...why didn't your installer use the arm button to activate the remote start....you would just have to press it 2 times to activate and then 2 to turn off. Lastly if your installer knew what he was doing he could use a relay and use the blue or blue/black wire from the 551T to interupt the ignition input going to the factory keyless entry so that you can lock/unlock with the car running. IMHO your best bet would of been a DEI 552T.....you would gain the range of the 552T and its extended range ant. Also the 552t could be hooked up to the trunk pop...so you retain that feature and since your vehicle arms with lock...and disarms with unlock the keyless can be hooked up via the 552t and you would retain the factory alarm....Also with the way that you can set up the 552T it will disarm the factory alarm prior to remote starting...then relock the doors and then once the vehicle times out or shuts down it will rearm the factory alarm. If memory serves me the 552T can even be wired for priority unlock like your factory remote (press unlock once..it unlocks drivers door...twice the other doors also unlock) The 551T is really a poor choice for your current situation. Come down to Cincinnati and I'll hook you up. But in all honesty...if your installer is worth a shat...he should be able to get you up and running properly. Good luck.

I would never use the stock remote on a aftermarket alarm system. Unless you NEED the memory seats.

I have the same unit and is programmed the same way. I DIDN"T want it to lock the doors because worst thing that happens is someone jumps in and trys to take off and the second they hit the brake to shift the car it turns off. Plus I didn't want to have to use my key to enter my car every time i remote start it.

Also...I didn't get an aftermarket one because i wanted my stock remote and also didn't want to have to carry around a second remote just for the remote start....the range is decent and works from work and the house with no problem.

hey ArN 2000 TL in my previous post about the 3 unlocks 1 lock

if u press 3 unlocks the cars starts but if u push 3 unlocks then the lock button 1 time then the doors lock too. So u have the option to lock the door b4 u start it or leave the doors open. I hope you can understand what i just said lol

How much did the installation cost Fastcarz3?

So let me get this straight, u 3x UL then 1x L to have ur car turn on with ur doors locked? And how do u open them once u decided to get into the car, by key or remote? If key, will the remote work? After you start the car, how do u turn it off with the remote....press 3x UL again? Does the factory alarm deactive when the remote start is activated...because i added a shock sensor to the factory alarm, i don't want it to trigger the alarm when i start the car.

CincyR/T
Is there ANYWAY....to improve the transmitter/reciever distance of the stock remote. I see auto/alarm store sell those ANTENNAS that are "supppose to boost TX/RX range, do those really work? It's becuase i want to keep the factory remote, don't want to change to a different one.

Sup guys...since we're on the topic of alarms. For those of us who have aftermarket alarms......do any of you have self powered Piezo's installed in the car? I took my Clifford out of my old Accord and put it in the TL. I put in Piezo's, 2 hidden under the dash. Point being...scumbags can break into my car...but they sure as hell ain't gonna sit in it long enough to remove anything! Ha! Cheap little addition to add to any aftermarket alarm system.

hey

hey acurafan the remote start cost 250 everything included. As far the remote sequence its 3x UL that will start the car with the door locks open. Now if you want the doors to be locked its 3xUL and a quick 1xL that quick lock will lock the doors just before the car starts. The quick pushing the lock button before the car starts is optional, thats only if you want the doors locked. Now when the doors are open you can jump right in, but you can't touch the pedals or the unlock button on the door. And when you remote start the car and lock it the only way to get in is to use the key. Once the car is running the factory remote functions are deadOh and theres no way to shut the car off with the remote you gotta pyhsical be in the car to turn it off. As far as your shocksenors i'm not really sure sorry. I'm pretty sure though it deactivates the factory alarm. Hope this helps

The extended range ant. can be added to viper/python/Valet RS and alarms that don't currently have them...but to my knowledge they are not able to be interfaced with the factory security system. I still believe that the Remote start (552T) with its own remote is the way to go. It can be interfaced into the factory alarm, keep it functioning and all in all be more user friendly than the 551t that utilizes the factory remote, in addition to the additional range. Also different remtoes can be purchased for the 552t that resemble a factory remote and are also a bit more durable the the ones currently included with the 552t's. The installer that did the fastcarz3's TL could also make the 551t a bit more user friendly but that would require a bit more work in addition to accessing the disarm no-unlock wire that is at the drivers door key cylinder (would require running a single wire in the drivers door) but you get what you pay for and if it works for fastcarz3 then more power to him....I just wouldn't personally be satisfied with it.

Fastcarz3, where did you get your job done, I am also in the NYC area and I want to get the remote start done for my 2003TL w/Nav. Question do you have NaV? I have been reading some posts about issues w/ Remote Start and messing up the Nav unit. Any info will greatly be appreciated.

Does messing with your alarm void your warranty?? And also is it hard to get it setup on your Stock REMOTE, Like can you only do it on certain cars to stock remote or only some? Also so if you turn the car on how do you physically go in and turn it off?? like if theres no key in how does it turn off?? also it doesnt move in gear or anything unless the key is in right?? I hope they have a remote start feature in the new 2004 TL. Can Anyone explain why no car comes with remote start?? I mean it would be cool.. Like not even mercedes features it and its only a $100-200 for there cost so why doesnt the REMOTE STARTER Come stock on any car?

Installed the Remote Starter just like FastCarz3 at Audio Design in Hicksville, Long Island. It works great. 3 Unlocks and the Car starts or hit 3 unlocks and a quick Lock to start the car and lock the doors. The only thing is, there is a 5 second delay from the third unlock till when the car actually starts. Is that normal for most Remote Starts? I thought it will be instantaneous.

I like the remote start real cool...However there are couple of times that I tried to start and the start didn't take....But then I guess the system senses that and then it tries to start it again and then it took....What about you?? Have you had that problem...

Man o' man Massive TL I'll put money on the fact that your installer was lazy and no tached the remote start. Basically instead of running a tach wire out under the hood and hooking the remote start up to the tach wire (should be a blue wire in a 2 pin plug near the drivers side shock tower) he just set the remote start to crank for an adjustable time from anywhere from .6 secs to 2 secs (more than likely he set it for .8 to 1.0) In any case if its no tached it should start "most" of the time with the exception being when the car is extremely cold or hasn't been driven in a while and it takes more the the set crank time that the remote start tries to crank. You may notice that it takes a 2nd try to start the car in the morning but once the car is warm it fires or kicks over right away. Alot of installers no-tach because it means they can get the car in and out of the bay much faster but hooking up the tach wire is a prefered method b/c it allows the car to crank untill it starts. Makes for a more reliable remote start. Another thing you may want to check is to see whether or not the hood pin is hooked up...if you can remote start your car with the hood open then it isn't..and can be a safety issue for anyone working under the hood of your car...meaning that the vehicle could be started by accident when one is doing something under the hood.

Seems to be a new problem now, The voice on my Navigation System doesn't seem to be working and the OnStar is not working. I don't get no Green, no red light...No light period. I am going to bring it to Acura of Valley Stream in the morning and see what's up. This sucks, the car has 600 miles and I have had it for 2 weeks and this thing happens. I just hope it's not the remote Starter that caused it to happen. I have had the car with the remote start for about 5 days before the OnStar and Voice died. So I will keep you guys posted on what's up with that....

hey massive you know what i found out with my remote start. If you push the dam unlock button on the door 3 times the car starts itself. Or if you park the car and shut it off take the key out and unlock the doors for the rest of the people the car will start also.

that can be fixed by diode isolating the keyless module from the door lock switch itself.

Well the Acura Tech couldn't diagnose the problem right away and so they told me to drop the car off on Wednesday cause they are extremely backed up (Possibly doing Tranny installs ) Quick Thing do you think I should inform my dealer that I installed the Remote Start??? I had it done in another shop and the Navi Voice and my Onstar was working while I had the remote Start installed....What do you guys think?
