Rear Deck Panel Removal

Has anybody ever removed the rear deck panel (where the 6x9's are)? I wanted to dynamat this area. It rattles bad with loud bass volume. I have applied dynamat to the trunk side of this panel but it still rattles. Thanks.

Maybe it's the brake light housing rattling against the rear window. Common problem. Stick a little padding between them and see if that helps.

Take out the seat, the pillar panels and the deck will slide out.

Get some foam weather stripping from a hardware store. Line the edges of the rear deck and brake light with it. Also place some of the stripping underneath the styrofoam blocks. I believe the blocks are the main culprit in making noise agianst the metal. You'll see what blocks I'm talking about as soon as you take the deck off.

In my 1st gen cl, you can just unclip the carpet and get underneath, not sure if it's the same for yours

Sorry I failed to mention. I have a 2004 TSX.
I'm concerned about the SRS sign on the pillars on the back. They might trigger on me if I mess around with them.

then just unplug your battery, give it about a min to "die out" and the car is "dead" so you won't send a signal to anything.

Yeah, they might, but it didn't happen when I took them off, and I had the battery connected. Plus, I could be wrong, but I don't believe simply disconnecting the battery kills the airbag system... Anyway, if you're up for it, you need to remove the back seat, side bolsters, c-pillar covers, speaker grills, and high mount stop to get the deck out. It not hard at all, just a pain in the ass.

if you don't have a battery hooked up to the car, then how else will the srs system or any system for that matter get a signal to fire?

Agreed, and like I said, I could be wrong. I just remember reading somewhere about needing to do something to the SRS control unit when working in the vicinity of SRS components in addition to disconnecting the battery.

just be careful also i guess, i mean, thats about all you can do besides unplugging the battery and not cutting or crimping any wires. if possible, unclip the srs from the connection and put it to the side.

If you pull both the negative and positive terminals off of the battery then touch the two together for about 1 min, that will fully drain your electrical system of all power. The SRS system needs an electric charge to fire. No electricity, no air bag.
