Question Radio mod, ext ?

Good day to all.

Soon i`ll be an owner of an American 04 TSX in Russia.

I see a few problems i`ll contact soon.

1) Radio.

In USA you have only odd stations, but in Russia there is a lot of odd and even stations (FM 104.2, FM 105, FM 102.1 etc). The factory settings in a tuner will not allow to use "even"stations. I have found several solutions.

a) Some tuners have built in dip switches, jumpers etc. That allows to use Euro or American standarts (Euro include even and odd stations)
b) To use an external converter, that moves the whole band by 8.3 Mhz. It means that on LCD will be 96.5 but really i`ll hear 104.8
c) change the quartz in a tuner, but no warranty that tuner will work with it.

Tell me please on what model/brand the head unit is based (Pioneer XXX, or ALpine YYYY)? I have maybe an incorrect opinion that it is an Alpine, because Alpine changer can be connected thrue an AUX port, and there are few adapters that allows to use an external alpine cd changer.

2) External TV, DVD, etc.

I can connect an external devices thrue an avelectronic. If i connect a dvd player/changer i`ll see a dvd on a built in navi screen and hear it thrue a tsx speakers, but if i understand correctly i can not control this dvd player/changer from head/navi controls, am i right ?
Is it possible to control an external dvd player/changer from built in navy/head unit ? Cause an external oem mp3/cd player can be connected to head unit.
Also there is an oem dvd+tv that can be connected to head unit and can be controlled from it, but it costs to expensive from my point of view, maybe there is a less expensive solution?

p.s. I hope you understand me right.

Good questions, yes you presented them clearly.

1) I do not know how to help you on the first one.
a) No switch or jumper that I know of to change it to Euro mode
b) this might be the only good option
c) don't know

It is not based on any standard Pioneer or Alpine model. The amp is by Pioneer, but the HU is separate. It is not something that includes any Alpine AI-NET or Pioneer IE-BUS connections, so adapter devices will not work.

2) You are correct. You can connect video input to the navi screen, but you cannot control the DVD player from it. The touch screen cannot presently be used as a remote. You will need another way to do it, like a remote control for the DVD player itself.

Good luck, and ask anymore questions that you need to. We will try to help.

Well there is not a switch that we understand in common situation, it means that
on a motherboard (textolite parts) of HU there is a layout as for Euro, as for Northen America. I can tell why i think so. Cause developer of HU surely uses one model as base for internal or European, or North American market. I don`t know which market for the developer is priority, but practice shows that sometime a soldering-iron helps for upgrade of low price device to hi end (if they are base on one layout).

In Russia the market of American car`s is really big one. And people learned how to help the radio understand even stations, but as they say that on some models it can not be done. So if it is not a holy secret, can you tell me what HU are installed on TSX, on the backplane, or on the top of it must be a sticky paper with inscription, and there should be something Pioneer/Alpine/Sony/Panasonic/etc XXXXX..

I mean not a standart 1din device that i can buy in a shop nearby, i mean that this device is used not for only one vehicle.

But how control works for oem mp3 player or i-VES DVD entertainment system? These are external devices, maybe (but i`dont know how) some "blend of a potato and a cockroach" ;-) can be a solution. ;-)))

btw i know some devices that can be connected to aux of acura/honda and can be controlled from wheel (but i`am not sure that this can be used on a TSX)

1) AL2007u MP3 USB
2) ALpine CHA-S634 or CHM-S630 thrue ALPINE KCA-130B

I do understand what you're saying. I have not removed my HU (only my amp) so I can only speak to that part. I have not examined the PCB to look for jumpers to universal format, and I don't know for sure the manufacturer of the HU. I believe it is Pioneer, but not 100% sure.

I believe IVES / oem mp3 player use the IE-BUS. This plug is available on the underside of the HU, and the schematics are available in the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual. For reading touchscreen info, you might want to see this link (it is a very long thread in English): https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/%5Bworking-%5D-hacking-ga-net-iebus-get-touchscreen-coordinates-346909/

These cannot be connected to the TSX, and I do not know of any similar ones that can.

Now i understand. But maybe some one already removed HU and knows what secrets are inside.
